And Madrigal homers. The kid got out of the inning without any more runs scored though. Next inning error and double and they pulled him. No walks, no WP, no HBP. He threw strikes for the most part.

Wasn't stellar but could have been a lot worse. Nothing like facing the 3,4,5 of the #2 team in the nation your first trip to the mound.

Yeah you're not going to see much better than that so it's all down hill from here, LOL.

PC asked him to forgo his windup and CB for the time being. Teammates told him its just his (PC) way. In the past he throws better out of the windup and the CB is a pitch he throws for a strike. So he kind of had a hand tied behind his back. Not to make an excuse, the results maybe wouldn't have been much better. Announcers made a comment about how composed he looked on the mound and you don't see a lot of freshman that have command of three pitches (really four). Not bad for a two-way who doesn't aspire to be a pitcher and hasen't taken a serious lesson in years.

Edit to add, the wife said more than once "I'm going to throw up".

 understand.

I don't think a HR is as bad as a walk, walks kill you, HR just mean you made a mistake that hopefully you won't do again.

IMO you have to fail before you get better at this game!

Congrats on your son getting to that level.  Really awesome.

At the risk of thread drift...

It's going to be interesting to see how things go for Madrigal and OSU this year.  Is he the best hitter in the nation?  Maybe, but the early talk has a bunch of pitchers and HS kids going higher than him in the MLB draft.  And yet, he's a small player who doesn't play SS so just the fact that he's considered to be a top 10 or so pick is a testament to what a dangerous hitter he is.  And if he does as well as he did last year, who knows?

As a SFG fan looking at his team having an early (#2) pick for a change, he is intriguing, especially since he's local, but the last thing we need is another Panik-Arroyo type player.  We need a big corner IF or corner OF who hits a ton of big flies.  While there are some intriguing HS players who fit that profile,  they take a while to develop.  I'm hoping that a college player, for example Seth Beer, has a monster year to prove he belongs in the discussion.

A few of my most memorable playing experiences were majestic HR's...  hit off me pitching.  I mean over tall left-center lightposts and seemingly still rising.  Memorable both because they went so far and the same few guys just had my number and did so multiple times.

And, yes, so now I am a coach
