Checking for a player... anyone know if engineering is a doable major while playing?  I would assume so with the nature of the school but...

Looks like roster is almost exclusively Florida.  Any specific insight beyond the usual home state scenarios and the "middle of hotbed" factor?  Any other inside info?

Mostly FL players, private and very expensive as are all the D2 programs in Florida. Not sure if engineering is  considered a double major. Not as many games as D1 programs, small conference. They just recently were reclassified in the Sunshine State Conference. DK coaches for Florida Southern, a conference member ,if you have any questions send a pm.

Majoring in Engineering and playing a sport is definitely "doable" at Embry-Riddle, in fact it's fairly normal. About 20-25% of our student-athletes are majoring in Engineering. We offer civil, mechanical, computer, electrical and of course, our most prominent, Aerospace.

My contact info is available on our website, http://erauathletics.com, please feel free to reach out with specific questions.

This is one of many occasions where the power of the high school baseball web community shines.  We get an inquiry about a specific school and their programs and we get none other than their athletic director (AD) responding to the inquiry

This is an example of how an AD can build an athletic program - by being aware, engaged, and willing to reach out when they become aware.  Good stuff all the way around.

Wow, how cool is that!  And, additionally, a key member has a son that coaches in the conference and also offered up help via PM.  Awesome.  Thanks, John Phillips and all.

Time to let the young man step back in and take charge.

Mr. Phillips, once he has contacted you, if there are any questions regarding this student athlete, feel free to contact me with any questions.  As reference, I am his HS coach and have sent several players to all levels in recent years.

Sorry about the broken link, somehow an extra comma ended up right after the address, we'll rule that one E-4 (my bad).

Main page is:  http://erauathletics.com

Always happy to answer questions about our University (baseball or otherwise), and if I can help connect a prospective student-athlete to one of our coaches, even better.

Having played at Embry-Riddle and now worked here for 20 years, I'm admittedly biased, but we do offer a great combination of an outstanding education, first-class facilities and top-notch baseball -- in the best Division II conference in the country.

Embry Riddle sends info in the mail to my 2017 every week it seems, they just started sending it to my 2019. Not sure how we got on the radar but they are aggressively recruiting/marketing kids outside of athletics

Funny note is my 2019 is interested, a good friend of mine is an alum, he is a commercial pilot and has nothing but good things to say about the school...and he played baseball there!!

Embry- Riddle threw a pitcher with a disability last inning of last game, and it was profound as I have never seen that in this situation. Not sure why they waited until the end as he was pretty good!! Kudos to the staff for giving this player an opportunity.

Cabbagedad i have sent you a pm.

You must be referring to Jason Dodson; similar to former MLB pitcher Jim Abbott, he catches and throws with the same hand. Great story about overcoming adversity...

Story written about him in high school which has a bit more info:

Thanks for the article, son had already done research on him, said he would have recruited him without a second thought.

I like to remind folks often that this is just a game, everyone has a bad outing, overcoming adversity is the greatest challenge to become successful, and that pertains to much more than sports.

Awesome!
