Both pitchers went the distance. Granby's Chris Artis gave up an unearned run in the first but held WB to four hits, including two infield singles. He struck out five and walked three.
WB's Jay Patto allowed two earned runs. Both runs scored in the second. Ty Hanchey hit a 0-2 pitch over the right field fence to lead off the inning. After a strikeout, Hunter Cole walked, stole second and raced home on a single to left field off the bat of Trent Hanchey. Patto allowed three other hits while striking out three and walking two.
WB never sent more than four batters to the plate in innings two through seven.
After Granby's loss to Woodside on Monday, Granby and WB are 2-1 in conference.

Oscar Smith and WB play tomorrow at 630 pm.
An interesting sidenote to the Western Branch - Woodside game last night was the winning run came across on a foul pop up to the first baseman. With one out in the top of the seventh inning, Phillip Gottlieb was on third base and Jay Patto on second base. Gottlieb had reached on a rbi single, and Patto on a rbi double. With a 1-2 count, Connor Rhem hit a pop up behind first. The first baseman, second baseman and right fielder all converged on the ball, but the first baseman caught the ball in foul territory. Gottlieb tagged and beat the throw home. A sacrifice fly and rbi for Rhem!
