Yep, that's it....college season has started...work has kept me from making it to a game yet and the home opener Tuesday looks shaky due to forecast of 35 degree weather.  I need a break.....so this thread is about anything you want it to be about.....just to kill the time until we see SUN & WARMER temperatures.

OMG. Between HS and college I have seen 9 games already this year.  And now I have let my wife talk me into moving back to the Northeast, where it's snowing right now. What's wrong with me?   True love, I guess.

Wow....then come on here and tell me how many games you've seen is not helping lol  ............................................................................................................

Would be kinda fun to see some pics of baseball fields in the NE region that got hammered with snow yesterday.

If it makes you guys feel any better, after basically one storm since last June, now that our season has started, we have 11 of the next 15 days forecast for rain here in California... and our ground does not handle it well.

Well, this may help you feel better.

Son’s team has an 8:30 game at Lakepoint tonight. The temp will be in the 30’s with 10-20 mph winds.

Would I be categorized as a “bad dad” if I decided to watch on FB Live in the comfort of my bed?

.....but LakePoint has Starbucks

Did I mention 20 mph wind gusts?

Forecast Watching for next week.....hope to get 2 of the 4 games that are scheduled. We are getting anxious to start games. My 2021 will be splitting time on Varsity and JV. Anyone got any tidbits on a barely 15yr old pitching to Seniors? He thinks he is ready.....I am hoping that is true....lol

A really good changeup to make his FB appear even faster.

Yes, have him ask to call his own pitches...  just kidding BDS

There are no 15 y.o.'s or seniors.  Just baseball players with tendencies.  I would guess he is in that role because he has some talent and some ability to make his pitches.  My advice is that he keeps making his pitches.

Hit your spots!

lol.....sometimes I wonder about pitches being called, but nowadays I see a trend to pitch to contact due to the pitch count rules. Good point on it just being ball player vs. ball player. He is not easily intimidated, he always had that working for him when playing his aged players. Time will tell, he is just stoked that he is going to get the opportunity to help the Varsity.

I was at my mother’s hospital room on a hill today looking down at Hadlock Field (AA Portland Sea Dogs) it went from bare to buried (foot and still snowing) today. It melts fast this time of year. But fast melting creates mud.

Was it a week ago we had sunny weather in the high 70's here in Midwest?  That's the rub with Midwest Springtime... you get those teases of beautiful weather, and you start to get in the Springtime mentality, only to deal with snow, ice and sub-freezing for another month! You'd think at my age, I'd be used to it!

Hopefully he has a friendly catcher - maybe a senior - who can help ease him into the game.  He really doesn't want to be looking towards the dugout or the stands and that catcher is certainly a good focal point.  I have a soft spot for catchers that are committed to further enabling their pitcher.  Infielders gathering around is nice, but its that catcher that is really going to help manage the game when things start heating up (no pun intended).

My son did that his freshman year. Other team figured out he was a freshman in his first varsity start and heckled him so bad I was grateful that the field was next to a train track, and praying for trains.

He got the W, though, so good things can happen. Good luck!!!

By Tuesday,  we will have completed 15 HS games and then we head to Phoenix to see 5-6 more games at spring training  It pays to live in the south.

Gawd, the season hasn't even started here (VA).  March 13th is opening day (on the road of course) for the local HS team.

I made a typo, it will only be 14 by Tuesday.  We've played in light rain and 34 degrees and some other cold and windy days, but we are playing.

Uhhhhhhmmm, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.  Couldn't get through the first minute.

Not saying they aren't talented, just not what I want to see players in baseball uniforms doing.  We all have different tastes I guess.

Years ago, our high school team was up by a zillion runs over in West Virginia, just trying to get through  5 innings so the game could be called under the slaughter rule. Temperature was in the upper 20's, and lots of wind. Son #1 had a horrible last at bat flailing at three horrible pitches to end the top of the 5th. He explained later that the coach made a "K" with his fingers signalling for him to strike out. Could have been worse-the two guys before him just squared up to bunt and stepped on the plate-2 pitches, 2 outs.

Ha!  This brings back memories of one of my son's JuCo games.   It was early in the season (February).   The area had seen some snow flurries earlier in the day.   Temperature at the beginning of game 1 of a DH, was in the low 40's and the temperature steadily dropping.   By the middle of game two the temperature was in the mid-to-high 30's with a slight breeze.   Son had played all of game 1 and coach took him out of the lineup about the middle of game 2 so my wife headed to the car to warm up.   I was among a group of Dads that were rooting for the defenses (it didn't matter which team) so the game could end sooner and we could go get warm!  We were so cold we didn't care who won (though I think my son's team did win).   Took us 45 minutes to warm up afterwards.

It's gonna be cold and wet up in Clemson (nothing like the NE or MW) but ACC play starts and we have GaTech. Solo run this weekend with the camper but not the wife, leaving it up there for NC State next weekend where are having a massive tailgate with smokers, lots of meat and friends.

Been to 9 out of 12 games.... c'mon BuckEye you gotta talk to your employer about working remotely!
