If you mean that you would expect more fanfare over that pitcher's velocity, well - I would expect it too, but I guess it didn't happen this time around.

I've seen games where a certain S. Florida HS pitcher who touches 96 is on the mound without a scout around. (Not the one you are thinking PG - the younger one.)

Only 5 scouts?  When my son was still in HS (graduated '12) his teammate was thowing 93-94 and touched 96 a few times and there were at least 15-20 scouts at every game he started on the mound.  We came to call it "the circus".  

His name is J. Hooper, a Jr on De La Salle in Concord Ca.

BTW, the 24 yo pitching coach in my bio is my son. I don’t know what happed to that little item but it used to be in there.

Like FoxDad noted, usually when there’s a HS pitcher out there legitimately throwing 90+, it’s a circus. A couple years back we had one of those and were getting 10 scouts showing up to pre-season scrimmages, and sometimes literally dozens for games. I wasn’t counting the scouts, but they’re usually pretty easy to spot, and I didn’t see more than a handful.

I’ll say it again. The kid definitely has some juice, but 96+? I don’t think a lot of lay parents really understand how freakin’ fast that is for a ML pitcher, let alone a HS pitcher.

Stats,

You saw one of the top juniors in the country pitching in that game.  Our scouts have had him up to 96 this year. At the WWBA in Jupiter last fall he was a very easy 92. Currently he is ranked #11 prospect in his class.

Not sure if you mentioned it but we have him listed as Justin Hooper a 6'6"/220 Lefty. 2015 grad.  Wish I would have been there with you for that game.  If you see him again next year when he's draft eligible you will be joined by a very large crowd of scouts, including Crosscheckers and Scouting Directors. Might even see a GM or two.

Let us know the next time you run across someone that stands out. You sure got this one right! Probable first rounder in 2015.

There seem to a lot of super tall, super strong lefties in NorCal right now.  I have not seen him but 6' 5" John Gavin from St. Francis is supposed to be all that.

John is a 2014 and you're correct he is another big, talented lefty thàt we have ranked. He was at our National Showcase last June and threw 90. Our people have not seen him yet this spring, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was closing in on mid 90s now.  

PG swooped on my post.  I was about to say, "well at least he is 92 because that is what PG has them on their data base."

Well PG, like I said, he definitely was the best pitcher we’ve seen this season, but the best part about it is, we beat him! Our 2014 right hander that just threw strikes shut them out, and we won 1-0 when that kid threw one to the backstop with a runner on 3^rd! He only went 4 innings against us. He’s young and will improve, but he better learn to pitch with runners on. He was all over the place in the stretch. But then again, we didn’t get many on.

We played St. Francis the 2^nd game but we didn’t see Gavin. We saw Deason. We had that game as well, going into the top of the 7^th leading 1-0 and 3 outs. Unfortunately, lightening struck. Our guys who had been playing great D, made 3 errors in the same inning and we lost 3-2. Tough loss, and we play the top ranked team in this area today!
