Hi, really excited to tecieve an invite from a scout for an Area Code tryout. Does anyone know what the format for the tryout is? Is it a showcase style workout? Also how many other players will I be competing with for spots? Thanks!

At the northeast Yankees tryout in New York there were 142 players.  They had two more tryouts in mass.  Don't know how many were at those.   Pretty standard format.   60.  Outfield throws to third and home.   Infield then bp.   After bp some players asked to hit again.

good luck !

Position players go first. Pitchers in the afternoon. There is a '1st cut ' for position players at noon. Remaining position players face live pitching in game type situation in afternoon.

Each Pitcher gets 3 maybe 4 batters .

A sea of radar guns behind home plate when pitchers throw.

Bring lots of water and pack a lunch. It's a long day

Yup, that's pretty much it in a nutshell.

"It's a long day" unless your one of those in the "1st cut".

Do not forget bring a bottle of water for the scouts and college coaches. It is a "longer" day for the scouting community. When I operated the tryouts, I schedule the pitchers who had the longest distance home to throw first group. Since the players did not have to pay for "exposure" I wanted to save hotel costs. Maybe it is different today.

My appreciation to all the ladies who gave me water. 12 hour days  each day for 17 years.
