Our 2017 went to his first showcase, and I feel that this board helped us be prepared for what to expect.  Thank you to all for creating this forum and posting such great info!  Son posted a 2.11-2.19 POP time and throw velocity of 68.  He is chomping at the bit to do a pricey velocity-focused program this winter.  My question is has anyone else done these for their catchers and have you seen results?  Just a little bit of info, I don't want this to turn into one of the size threads....son is 5'7" and 127 lbs; twitchy muscle athlete.  We've just always told him "we're a family of late bloomers and you'll just have to keep working twice as hard."  My thoughts are if he keeps applying himself as he has been (long toss, band work, lifting and grades, grades, grades!), his speed will naturally increase as his body matures and this program seems like overkill.  Any feedback will be appreciated

His arm will get stronger, his pop times will get better.  At his age and size it sounds like he is doing well.  I would spend more time on mastering catch and throw technique at this point rather than worrying about velocity.  If arm strength is a problem in a couple years, he should be more physically mature and then it might be worthwhile to concentrate on just the arm.

I agree with what has been posted. I have no vested interest nor have I read his new book but Jerry Weinstein is one of the best IMO in this area so I would get some of his (or anyone else you think is appropriate) material and work on technique first.

I would focus on strength and conditioning now. Eric Cressey is a good source but there are others.

Next year I would do a drivelinebaseball or Wolforth program.

Good luck if he keeps working hard he will be in fine shape.
