We have our catcher toss dirt in the direction of his pick before the pitch, or just swipe the dirt.

Of course with our 1B the past few years, he just always stayed close to the bag anyhow, because he had limited range.

But this has worked pretty successfully for us, and since our catchers haven't been real vocal guys, a verbal wouldn't have really worked for us.
I'm not a big talker during games so if I yelled anything out, the opposition would know something was up. We used realteamcoach's suggestion of the catcher tossing some dirt in the direction where he was throwing. Works well if your infielders are good at paying attention. It can be done in reverse also where the infielder has a sign and the catcher acknowledges with the dirt in his direction.
