 Beer entered spring 2016.

I knew Beer entered early,  how common is this.  I know in football it's becoming commonplace to bring a freshman in early, participate in spring ball, and often redshirt,  but how often does this happen in baseball, other than Beer I've never heard of it?  Anyone on the board have a player that graduated early and entered?

Beer's circumstances were quite different than most. He was old for his age as a senior and quite mature and ranked very high as a 2016. His folks felt college after HS was a better option than milb. Clemson also lost some players which opened an opporrunity for him to start asap. Plus, he fell in love with Clemson the moment he saw it and wanted to establish his roots there as a college player.  Its already apparent he is an impact player and made a difference in the seasons outcome and will have his likeness up on the wall when he leaves clemson. Freshman of the year awarded the Dick Howser Trophy aint too shabby.

One thing to keep in mind, summer programs are usually not covered under the players scholarship or is the housing. Speak to the athletic advisors.

IMO it came down to  the cost of an early start vs playing summer ball, which can  be expensive, I would choose the first option.

Your best use of time is to play the highest level of competition as possible.

Learn to hit!!!! Learn to pitch!!! Learn what the pitcher is throwing. Learn to "read the bat".

Learn how to run the bases. when you are in college there are NO excuses for failure.

At MSU, we had 100 out for the 1st Freshman team practice and 4 years later only 5 played in the College WS. "Develop your mental approach". The Japanese and Korean HS player takes 1,000 swings each day.

You are now approaching a "serious" time of your life. You are now a "athlete student" and in three years a "student athlete". Eliminate the social hour in the student grill.

Do not be like the pro player who says "dear Mom, I will be home soon, they are throwing curve balls".
