Three years ago I watched CU host the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. CU had roughly 50 players warm up; USMMA had about 20 players. CU pitcher sat 85-88 that day and they were a well coached and enthusiastic team; did a lot of the little things right (especially when compared to USMMA).

I don't know where the team works out, but the field was in a very very sketchy area. Field was well maintained and it's possible - since we needed to find the field and drove around to find it - that we just approached the field from the sketchy part of town.

field is next to campus which is in NE part of DC. area surrounding CUA campus and Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (National Shrine) is in a not-so great part of town, but campus is safe and immediate area is relatively safe. It's definitely an urban campus and with that comes the opportunities for students to take part in internships and all the city has to offer.

My son graduated from CUA in 2011 and had a good experience. Took him 5 years to graduate because he couldnt take some engineering labs that were on Fridays, and would miss them because of travel. He played four years of baseball and one of football. Some of the guys loved the coach, and some didnt like him at all. He would do it all over again.

bcb3,

I think liking the coach or not is pretty universal. From my experience most of the players that do not like a coach, usually stems form not listening to the coach during recruiting. Many players hear, that they will be starting as a freshman, when what they were told is that they would have the opportunity to compete for a starting position. Hence they think the coached lied. Coaches are also rarely the person you meet during the recruiting process. I have repeated it many times so I will not repeat it again unless there is a request. A coaches job is to get you to campus and to like the school. Once you get here it is his job to win. If he feels you cannot help him win you will not start.

My 2015 had some conversations with CU during the summer before his senior year. They were very accessible and were straightforward with him, which he appreciated. They also ran a Summer Prospect Camp in August that year. In past years they have attended some Top 96 showcases and events run by Diamond Recruiting.

(Goosegg, that neighborhood is not too sketch by DC standards.)

My son really liked the HC after speaking to him a few times this summer. Like others have said he appears to be a straight shooter. One of my sons HS teammates played for Catholic last year and by all account he really likes it there. It didn't end up on his list bc my son didn't want the city experience and decided to stay closer to home and commute.
