Midlothian HS 2007/UVA 2011 RHP Tyler Wilson, now in the Orioles' starting rotation and doing well, faced Prince George HS 2008/U. So. Carolina 2011 (junior draftee) Jackie Bradley, Jr. for what I believe was the first time in MLB yesterday.  I got a kick out of seeing these two guys go head to head.  Kind of sorry that the announcers were oblivious to their likely history.

Tyler pitched quite well but took a tough loss, as he was only trailing 3-2 when he was pulled after 6.2 innings, but the bullpen allowed the Red Sox to pull away.  Tyler has been locking down his rotation spot by consistently pitching well this year.

But I guess you'd have to say JBJ got the better of the head-to-head as he lined out hard, grounded out, then homered for the go-ahead run in the 6th.  But then, JBJ has been on a tear this year.

Back in 2005-07, those two were in different districts in the former AAA Central Region, but as they overlapped for three years of varsity play, I'm thinking they likely faced each other at some point.  Highly probable that they faced off in their years of playing on various travel teams as well.  Tyler was not a Richmond Braves guy but did fill in for them a few times, which would've possibly put him in the lineup with JBJ a few times as well.  Tyler did not pitch in the two games UVA lost to USC at the CWS in 2011, but he had a front-row seat for a fine tourney by JBJ that year.  (Tyler actually pitched quite well in what turned out to be the last W of that season for UVA, in a game against Cal that was sandwiched in between the two losses to USC.)

BTW, this is a "nice guys finish first" story, as these guys were some of the nicer young men you could've run across back when they were in HS, and though I've not had the privilege of crossing paths with either of them in the years since then, the way they come across in TV interviews suggests that this has not changed over the years.
