My son, as has been documented on this site, has dealt with some shoulder issues. He was cleared about a month ago to start throwing and to continue physical therapy. He hasn't been in a game since April or on the mound or in a batting age. He is gonna hit the mound this weekend and see how he feels and how rusty he looks. He has been throwing the football with no issues. Anyway, He has been communicating with a coach at a college that he has a bit of interest in attending. The coach asked him to come to a camp next weekend, 1 day camp very inexpensive. My question is...My son is obviously gonna be rusty. Is it a smart decision to go? If not, what do we tell the coach? He didn't commit to the camp just said he would try to attend. I have him a couple hitting lessons for him next but I don't feel it will be enough. Also being a 6'4 lefty I would hate for him to have a bad showing on the mound since he hasn't done any mound work. How do we handle this?

If your son is interested in the school and it's not expensive as you said and it's not too big of a trip I would go.  Let the coach know you are coming because of your interest in the school and you hope you will get a chance to meet and talk to the coach, but you will not be able to participate in the camp because you are rehabbing.  You will get to interact with the coach and his staff, see how they do things and show your interest in the school.  Getting on coaches radar is a big part of the battle.
