And to be clear, I know Holtzman was a great pitcher. Just didn't expect him over Greenberg, etc.
Excellent! JEWS IN BASEBALL is a good reference/ encyclopedia.
The concept of Team Israel was developed by a group of jewish agents, lawyers and team owners. Former players like Gabe Kapler, Shawn Green (his book a must read and my son's idol), Brad Ausmus ( manager the year son played) were also involved and presented their idea to Israel years before along with many others. It was an undertaking. When I went last fall to Brooklyn to watch the series for qualification, I met many fans that were at the 2013 qualifier, they all remembered who we were and knew everything about what son had been doing for 4 years since. Very powerful.
There is certain criteria to be met, you do not have to be jewish to play for Team Israel but needed a strong reason to (marriage).
Tell your son if he plays college ball he will be written in the reference.
