Just wanted to pick some baseball brains and hear some viewpoints. I've talked to a couple of d3s who've made it clear to me that Id have a spot on their team (I still don't know how a player "commits" to such d3s from this standpoint) and enjoyed campus, felt very good. Coach tells me that a well respected d2 here in my hometown with a great coach I met with easier this year wants me to sign and will let me sign even this fall. Sign me up right???! Or wrong?? What do I want to do before I commit ?

rshif13,

Contact the D2 coach immediately. "Signing" implies a scholarship. Find out if he is offering you a scholarship. The early NLI signing period this year is November 11-18, so that may be what your coach was referring to. Once you know about the scholarship, you'll have more information to compare your options.

The D3 schools can't offer you an athletic scholarship, but you could qualify for merit and/or need grants. Do you know your chances of being admitted to any/all of these schools (on the academic side)?

Ask yourself this, if you dropped the D2 and D3 tags from the two schools you are choosing from, which school meets your needs:

Financially

Scholastically

Socially

Ability to be an impact player on the team

The coach

And I am sure there are a few more areas you could add.  And then make your decision.  Do not get too hung up on what number comes after "D".  It may be part of your decision, but should not be the first on the list by a far stretch.

I do not have much to add I think Shortnquick and Mid-atlantic Dad did a wonderful job of summing up your decision.

In D3 there is really no Commitment. It is a verbal agreement that you are gong to attend that coaches school. He does not know that he has you until you show up on campus in the fall and have paid that first tuition bill.
