I have to say this is really interesting. The NCAA's Division I Council passes changes on when an athlete can take an OV to now be able to take place from April 1 of his Junior year through "the Sunday before the last Wednesday in June" (as long as the blue moon has occurred).

Makes sense to me from a parental perspective, why offer a kid a scholarship as a Junior (or younger) if the school can't even have the kid come to visit on the school's dime? Some schools in the "SEC, ACC and other conferences have voiced their displeasure about the changes, especially moving up official visits into the spring, when teams are practicing and coaches are out recruiting or holding camps. Some coaches say the new calendar doesn't allow them to get to know prospects well enough or see how players develop later in their high school careers."

Newsflash, it's time to pay the piper. If you are going to take the kid off the market by having them verbal, it's time to get financially invested in that student-athlete. If schools think they need more time to evaluate, don't offer them early.

I loved the comment about not getting "to know prospects well enough..." as an argument against.  Lover your comment about telling them to simply "wait" if they need more time to evaluate.  Wish they would move the OV for baseball, although the football dates would put this towards the end of the high school baseball season so a little flexibility there would be nice.
