Question- how many members have sons that signed in the spring signing period vs the early signing period? Just curious....also- are pitchers more likely to sign early than position players? The only players from our area who have signed yet are pitchers, and we had 2 teams in our county who were top 4 in the state?

Yes, pitchers always go first.....Almost 1/2 of a NCAA roster at any particular school is pitchers. John Savage at UCLA currently lists a roster of 35 and 15 are pitchers.
There is an old saying : " The money is up the middle" and it's true. Pitchers, Catchers , SS are the first to commit
If you check a NCAA D-1 recruitment list for 2017 they all kinda look the same . For example, if the bring in a total of say 15 guys, 8 will be pitchers . You'll see a Catcher or two and 4-5 Shortstops.
They convert the shortstops to other positions , That is why you'll see 4 guys committed at SS for the same class. Those guys more than likely will end up playing OF , 2B , 3B
They reason they do that and not just bring in for example, a 3rd baseman or several OF's is that SS 's are generally athletic , have foot speed and a strong throwing arm. They can play anywhere.
The college game is much faster than the HS game. Foot speed ( 60 time ) is huge. It's hard for big slower corner guys ( 1st /3rd ) to get recruited. They do get recruited but only the ones that MASH . Big time hitters w/ legit off the wall over the wall power and quick hands/ bat speed.
