My son has played against GWU in non-conference play the last 4 years.  This year I saw a jump in their overall play versus previous years.   They've got some talent.  However, they have a long way to go to catch up to VCU whom I've seen play twice this year and GMU.  The A10 has got some good teams in it, and GWU needs to do something different if they want to catch up.  JMO.

The off campus facilities are very nice but not convenient IMHO.  I know in my son's case, an off campus facility would not have been a situation my son would have jumped at.  As with everything, you have to look at the big picture and weight pros and cons.

Good luck!

Atlantic 10 may be the most unbalanced conference in the country.

You have a few solidly respectable mid majors with RPI's under 100, and a few teams a notch behind that.  But then you have a half dozen teams with RPI's in the bottom 50.

It will be a challenge for GWU to climb out of that bottom group.  It's hard to attract a lot of talent to a high cost, high academic school with an urban campus and off-campus baseball facilities across a river and a state line. But good leadership can overcome anything, and people who know the coaches seem pretty enthusiastic.

GW is 1 of the stops on our High Academic Mid-Atlantic College Bus Tour.

Off the top of my head a couple of pluses...

- Obviously high academic

- Very good coach.

- New facilities (yes off campus)

Here is my thought on what makes it (and others close by) so attractive.  Being inside the beltway provides 1st hand knowledge and access to the best of the best of the professional world.  Weather any of us want to accept it, baseball is just a hobby and eventually comes to an end.  The kids in DC have incredible access to the best in business, law, government, medicine, etc etc etc.  While some kids may come home and do an internship at a local business.  Doing an internship on Capital Hill is truly valuable and sets kids up for a career beyond baseball.

I would be happy to speak about my son's experience. He was coached by Ritchie.
