I am grassing my baselines in. We fight erosion so bad where i am at and we have 0 budget (from school) .... Grass grows great on our field so now we will just have more of it.

Of course the hard part is getting them nice and smoothe, any comments of yours are welcome.

We have grass baselines and I love it. The key is to make sure it is good and smoothe when you grass it over. If we have had a lot of traffic on it during practice or in the game, I will throw out rye seed. This germanates quickly and gets grass back on the wear spots.

Another tip would be to lay out something to protect the grass if you are going to use that area heavily. (ex. pick off/run downs between 3rd and home).

speaking of throwing out grass seed. Try mixing up some pre germinated seed. Lots of suggestions on line as to the best way to mix it up.

CAUSES FOR EROSION

As I understand this diagram skipper it looks as though your best bet to minimize eroded basepaths would be to order up some global warming to reduce or eliminate the nightmarish "Frost Action!" and, of course, keep the military guys off your field. That should do it I reckon.

Pre germinated seed is the way to go.
