I know this has been talked about b4, but more or less as a bump lets talk. When did you see your sons growth spurts take off. Did they only have 1 or were there multiple ones?
The calender year of 2008 my son (12yo at the time)grew a total of 8 inches. ( 5'2" to 5'10") His shoes size went from an 8 to an 11. I just measured him yesterday and he is 5'11" and now his shoes are 12s.He weighs in at 144lbs. He will be 14 at the end of July.
Would love to hear how some other kids grew. My son was incredibly uncoordinated in the fall and early winter but seems to have gotten his coordination back. His speed is starting to return also.

My son just turned 14 this month and is 5' 10" maybe 11" nowadays. He never had a MAJOR growth spurt. He has basically averaged 3-5" a year every year. His feet have always been ahead of his body as he is now in a 13 this year. There was a year (10-11?) that his shoe size went up twice in the one year, needed new cleats for fall ball as the ones he just got in the spring were now too small. The biggest change came when puberty hit this winter, he lost all of his baby fat and really thinned out a lot, dropped around 20 pounds in a few months from it. he is around 150lbs now. His coordination improved after puberty as well, he runs better and quicker as well, really noticed it during basketball this past season. I figure by summers end he will be taller then me (6') and he will let me know about it for sure when it happens!!
I'll go by the beginning of the baseball season in the spring. He has a late spring birthday. He's not sixteen yet.

11U: 4'10", ??
12U: 5'0", 100
13U: 5'2", 110
14U: 5'4", 120
15U: 5'11", 135
16U: 6'1", 162

His sister went from 4'8" to 5'10" in eighteen months from age twelve to fourteen. Girls are usually their height by twelve or thirteen. Mom has the late bloomer genes. I was the big kid in LL and stopped growing junior year of high school. My son is already my height.

There were a lot of kids I know who after not seeing for a few months were hard to recognize during sophomore year from so much growth.

Mine from LL-HS

12U - 5'2" 125
14U - 5'4" 150
16U - 5'7" 185
18U - 5'9" 185

He wears a size 9 shoe.

He never had one of those growth spurts and unlikely ever will. Neither did I. My junior year in high school, I was 5-10. I grew until I was 21 when I hit 6'. I think he's done growing.

One thing he had going for him was with thick arms, wrists and legs he was able to hit with power to all fields. In woodbat leagues, he would muscle jam shots into the outfield instead of hitting a weak dud to 2B. Thru the martial arts where he's a black belt, he developed speed and quickness. Physically, he was one of the strongest players on the varsity team even though he was one of the shortest players.

My son grew pretty fast too, from 11-13 he grew almost 13 inches. He's slowed a bit and from 13-14 grew only 3".

He just turned 14 and is currently 6'1", 170 lbs. and is FINALLY getting control of his body again. I think wrestling and playing basketball have helped his coordination a lot. But, his heart belongs to Baseball!

He's still growing, but at a much slower and manageable rate.

ETA: his shoe size has stabilized at 13 for the last 4 months

Cousin! This sounds very similar to my youngest. Size 13s - hit six one - slowed down. He is 15 (16 this summer) and on the other side of 6'4". He weighs 205. The best news about regaining agility, is the realization of how much strength they have!

Size 13 are so much easier to buy for than 14.
Hi,

13 year old son, seems to grow at a steady rate about 3 inches a year. Though I think we are at the beginning of a pretty good spurt. He is currently 5-10 and about 140 pounds.

Shoe size seemed to be the same as his age... wore 12's at age 12... Not anymore... he is 13 and his tennis shoes are size 15. We lucked out and found some clearance spikes that he could wear that were size 14's. I bet he needs a larger size before fall ball starts.

Our big joke is that he looks like a velociraptor from the Jurassic Park movie, with the long limbs, long fingers and big ole feet. He eats like one too.
Not sure when the big growth spurt or puberty will will hit, but our team of LL 12 year olds that are very successful at AA and AAA tournaments played a true "travel" team this weekend in the finals of a tournament.

My son at 12 years 3 month (biggest kid on our team at 5'6" 150) would have been the second smallest on their team. Some of their 12 year olds were at least 5'10" and 180, and it wasn't a flabby 180 either.

Their coach said they practice 2 hrs / day 5 days a week, and then travel for tournaments on 3/4 weekends.

Mine grew steadily until age 11, then from 11 to 13 he went from 5'6 to 6'1 His 14th birthday is July 8th and he is closing in on 6'2.......I have been told that he should hit 6'5 with little problem...He is going into 8th grade next fall.

But I cannot keep weight on him, while is he is strong, he weights in at 142.

I also had a "special" formula of stuff that I gave him before he went to sleep and after workouts that was supposed to increase his normal levels of growth hormone. Now don't freak out on me, it was a combonation of vitamins and minerials....I don't know if it helped but it sure did not hurt.
