I come up with this 1st and 3rd play whenever AHSAA deemed the "wheel pick off" move against the rules. The runner at first was going on first move since this pick off can't be done any longer. This made it tougher on our catchers if we wanted to throw through to 2B.

So what we do is the pitcher uses his big leg kick and picks to 3B. 5 gains ground to pitcher like a 1st baseman does when a lefty picks and the runner takes off. 5 checks R3 then throws to 2B if R1 is still stealing bag. Plenty of time to throw out the clueless R1. This only works once a game. But our mission is accomplished, R1 gets a later jump because he has to make sure the pitcher is going to the plate.

We have never seen another team do this so I was just curious if you guys have ever seen it.

Yeah. This was the first thing I instituted when they made the fake to third illegal. Important to note that they did not make the fake to third and pick to first, per se, illegal. They simply made faking to third from the mound illegal under the same verbiage as faking to first. I only say this because I've seen coaches continue to fake to third, thinking it was legal because they didn't then wheel and look to first.

The only difference in what you're doing is that my 3B doesn't check R3. He takes the ball with no other intent than relaying to second immediately.
