There was a helpful post on this issue in August 2016... wondering if there are any new or different takes after another fall and summer season:  What are the pros and cons of Headfirst vs Showball showcases?  What were your experiences?

My son is a 2020 RHP. Somewhat of a late bloomer, but probably a D3 player (hasn’t given up on the Ivies or a Davidson-type program, but that’s a long shot).  Looking for a high academic school.  We are on the east coast and would attend an east coast showcase, although any region could be ok for college. Son has played in WWBA (made all-tournament team as a P), and will do some more PG tournaments, but I’m thinking Showball or Headfirst make more sense than a PG showcase (there are only so many $900+ fees I want to pay).

Son has not narrowed down schools of interest beyond “strong academics.”  Has not heard from any coaches yet other than a small nearby D2 that isn’t a fit academically.  His grades and test scores should be ok for any school. Pitches for a decent varsity program and a regionally strong travel team; really just beginning to think about college baseball

Am I correct that August (as a rising junior) would be a reasonable time to go to his first showcase?  Are Headfirst or Showball the right ones to consider?  Any reason to prefer one to the other?  Son tops out at 83 mph now; coaches I trust say he can get to 90+.
