Too risky or good way to get kids to swing the bat?

I'm sure coaches out there have some different philosophies in regards to the hit and run.

I think the good high school teams use it and practice it quite a bit.  Same in college.  The BBCOR era seems to have brought back the "Hit the Run".

I don't think it is risky if you practice it, and have the personnel & situation to execute it.   Any advantage or extra base you can take in a tight game with a very good throwing catcher is an opportunity to consider the hit and run.

In terms of the coach's mindset:

Some think of it as a way of moving a runner from first to third.

Others think of it as hitting a groundball to sacrifice a runner to second, but of course hoping for more.
