I'm just not sure if it makes sense for a kid who profiles more as a D3 prospect so far to go to those type events.  Perhaps the tougher competition & better training can help him elevate his game more and better prepare him for his Soph season of high school as well as the 16U 2019 Summer?

The extra year of being in one of these top programs could help him within the program in terms of positioning for the important years of 16/17?

You mentioned budget being a factor, that he wasn't yet D1 material and you weren't sure where his skill set may be at this time next year.  I know you feel like you're in a tough spot having to try to project more than a year out and that can be tough.  Just keep in mind that, as the skill set improves, the body matures and the work ethic and passion still show up, more and more opportunities will present themselves.   So, let him go through any tryouts that seem possible fits and see what kind of feedback he gets.  If he grows as it seems he likely will, the same team that may say "no thanks" this time around could very well come seeking his services next year.  And, all of the sudden, tryouts are just a formality.

Point is, don't sweat it too much.  He has opportunities.  He is playing a lot and working at his game.  He likes to work at it.  The rest will kind of take care of itself.
