I know and agree with everybody about taking time off and not throwing.  2019 threw more innings between high school (that would be his high school coaches fault partly, ME) and summer than he probably should have but the biggest tournaments are in July and he was on a good team that made it to the bracket of 16U WWBA then at an SEC school he that was on his list then followed by PG World Series and PBR Futures Game.  All that being said he is done with summer and has committed.  Give me suggestions on this fall and early winter.  FYI.  He is starting qb on varsity so he is throwing football every day.  He will play some fall baseball stuff but we have said and his showcase coach agrees he will not pitch unless it is at Jupiter.  I know he needs to take off but how long and should there be a time in Early October where he throws some bullpens and then takes off again in November and December.  I believe he cannot take off from now until January.  I know some of you have opinions on this so let it ride.  As I have said before, some of you have a lot of experience so share it.

it makes this a little tougher because he's a Quarterback.   When does football season end?

Normally I would say take 3 months off from throwing.   It is August 17th right now so don't let him throw a Baseball again until November 17th.   He already has a commitment.  To me that means the only reason to go to Jupiter would be to be seen by Pro Scouts, but since he's a 2019, Jupiter can wait a year for the pro scouts

My opinion, very much the Holiday Inn variety...

Everything I have read, studied, observed, experienced tells me no one knows what is optimal with 100% certainty and that each individual is different.  That said, taking a lengthy break to allow for proper full healing each year is a good thing.  The continued evolution of year 'round events makes it very difficult to schedule lengthy breaks for the player who has some talent and is active in the recruiting process.  I think that a good minimum full break to shoot for is six weeks.  I think that it is even more important to allow in the schedule for a gradual ramping back up afterward, going through the normal progressions of short distance, longer with more frequency and effort, flat grounds, pens with FB only, etc.

Since your son is a qb and will be playing baseball as a position player in the fall, he will not have nearly as lengthy ramping back up phase but will not get the full benefit of complete healing.  Still, not pitching ( throwing max effort repeatedly ) will afford a degree of rest and recovery.

Agree....I don't see a reason to go to Jupiter....unless he would consider decommitting if he got an offer from a bigger school.. I don't agree with that, but everyone has their own opinions on it.  If not, then I think football is enough...and maybe a bullpen thrown in here or there during the football season if he's not on a football team that has him throwing 100's of passes every day.   Football season ends by late Nov/early Dec.....he'll have plenty of time to get back into shape before spring baseball

You will have to learn to say no, shut it down. Believe me, you can't please everybody and we're talking about your sons arm health! Without the arm.....there is NO commitment! 

He's committed, now the real work starts. Work on getting stronger and gaining mobility. There is little value for him to play Jupiter, ( I know most will disagree) the truth is, he will garner attention of  pro scouts (if that's what you're looking for) due to the college commitment and playing for the RST. Be prepared for next Spring and that preparation should have already started! 

You want to show continued improvement. By working on strength and mobility and having an "off season", he stands a greater chance to show improvement. Remember, a majority of his peers are trying to gain an opportunity to play at the college level and will continue playing into October with little time to train for the next season.  I would add, playing catch a couple times a week just so the ball doesn't feel foreign as he would likely start to wake the arm back up in mid to late November into December. 

I know of your player as your just an hour or so south of me. If your interested PM me and I'll direct you to someone that can help in his off season training. The difference is coming out shoving the same or increasing his strength and mobility which translates to velocity...............
