It depends.

It can be a very good thing if you have:
--Enough players to absorb absences for vacations and guys playing football in the fall,

--Coaches who know and are capable of teaching the high school team's system,

--Players of comparable levels (e.g., a bunch of rising sophs and juniors who really are ready to move up to varsity)

However, if you're going to struggle to field a team, if you're going to have to mix players of vastly different maturity, and if it's going to be coached by a dad who has been progressing up the coaching ladder alongside his own kid, it could degrade into a bad situation quickly.

There are a couple schools in our area that have the depth to make this work, and it really seems to make a difference for them. Our school doesn't have the depth, so the coaches help players find suitable playing opportunities for whatever skill level they happen to be.
