Silly question but does anyone know why the number of posts assigned to a poster seems so far off?  I was about to welcome who I thought was a fairly new member but he/she is listed as having 100+ posts.  I went into the profile and there were only about eight.  This seems to be the norm.  Just nice to know for context whether someone is new or not.

Cabbagedad,

It seems like the system gives extra points for your initial actions of signing up, logging in the first time after you sign up, and making your first post.

Beyond that, dialogs count as posts even though they don't show up when other members click on the profile.  There are some members who seem to make most of their posts "behind the curtain" of dialogs.  One member told me she gives a fair amount of personal advice in this manner because she doesn't want to air her son's experiences in the public forum.  (The moderators have no access to the dialogs, so we don't know what goes on in dialogs unless someone tells us.)

Also, some members delete some of their posts or have them deleted by moderators.  I delete some of my own posts on occasion when my comments prove irrelevant to threads that I think other people might want to refer to later, and sometimes I delete my posts when I realize they are less funny, less helpful, or more obnoxious than I intended them to be.  I think other members do the same thing.

Hope this helps, but it's probably not the whole story because I don't really know how the counting system works.
