14U travel ball. Runners on 2B and 3B with no outs. Batter hits a hard grounder that goes right between SS and 2B runner who got a late jump trying to advance to 3B. Both SS and 2B runner move away from each other to avoid the collision and ball gets into OF (my $0.02 is SS would not have made play regardless). Runner on 3rd scores, runner on 2B is now at 3rd, and batter is at 1B.

Defensive coach asks for an interference call on runner at 2B. Umps meet and call interference on runner at 2B, who is out, calls the batter out, and moves original 3B runner who scored back to 3B.

Right call?

There are two questions here.

1. Is it interference?

If the runner (regardless of whether his jump was early, late or just right) impeded, confused, hindered or interfered with the SS's attempt to field the ball (regardless of whether the SS would have made the play if not impeded, confused, hindered, or interfered with), then it is interference.

From your description, the interference call is plausible.

2. If it is interference, who is out and where are the runners placed?

The runner who caused the interference is out, the other runner returns to third base, and the batter is placed at first . . . UNLESS the umpires rule that, if not for the interference, the SS had an opportunity to tag the runner and throw out the batter runner, in which case they can call the batter runner out also.
