While discussing the weather and its effects on baseball with a friend, it occurred to me that in the regions where weather has a deleterious effect, there is a lot more passion for the game in the players and fans. That’s not to say there’s no passion for baseball in sunbelt areas, but rather that the general level of passion is lower in those areas because of fewer opportunities.

Possibly true with the fans.

Not true with the players. Imo

I was thinking along the lines of “absence makes the heart grow fonder”. It’s kinda tough to keep roaring fire of passion going for the game when you get to play it literally every day, compared to not being able to get outside and play for maybe months at a time.

I remember as a kid not being able to wait to get to that 1st practice and see kids I hadn’t seen in months and play the game I hadn’t been able to play in months. I don’t often see that out here because the season never seems to end and the different seasons and sports run together.

Do you think you get a true sense of ALL players when you’re focus is on the “upper echelon” players? The very good and above players always have a reason to be passionate about the game. After all, its them who get the accolades and prizes, but I wonder if the other players share that passion, and there’s a lot more of them.
