Beautiful campus and obviously a great academic experience.  Coach Babb has been there 35+ years.   Lots of security there that he isn't likely to leave for another HC job anytime soon (still just guessing of course).

Any sport at Hopkins will play second fiddle to LaCrosse.  They recruit all over.  Pretty big roster but not out of control.   Just built a brand new All-Turf field/stadium.   They've been pretty successful, went 38-8 last year.

I know a few kids who played there. The roster typically has from 40-50 players. There is a JV team. They play a few games. JV players rarely make varsity.

It's one of the top academic colleges in the country. It's not the end of the world if baseball helps a player get accepted and baseball doesn't work out.

My oldest son is going in to senior year at Hopkins.    He played football first two years before injury forced him to hang up cleats.   It's been a great experience. And he already has signed an offer of employment in his chosen field.   Can t answer baseball questions but would be happy to answer any academic or general questions.  Pm me if you'd like.

Coach Babb isn't going to another school.  I asked him why he had stayed there so long, and he listed the usual reasons.  Then he said his wife's family is all in Baltimore.  Only place he is going is into retirement whenever that time comes.

Do you know Coach Fester?  Curious on the vibe of his Assoc HC role converting to HC... really nice guy.

Anybody with a real sense of the surrounding area of JH?  I visited when it was late at night...kind of hard to tell.  Security seemed to be focused.  But it seemed to be less of a threat than the area surrounding U. of Chicago. (which I'm more familiar with)

Have to be honest. I'm a huge fan of the school.  But it's a rough area.

The immediate campus and bordering streets felt safe when my two guys went to their camp a year ago.  However, once you get out of the immediate neighborhood, not so much.

Liked Babb and his staff a lot.  Carries a large roster but is really upfront about it.  Told our group everyone has to retryout every year.  Camp evals were pretty thorough. and accurate.

I know one kid who just graduated from there, was supposed to play baseball, got hurt...never played. Got great education and is now making 6 figures (by just a little bit) in his first year out of college.

The baseball record is somewhat inflated as the centennial league they play in is not real strong but Hopkins is the cream and very good.

Been to a lot of tourneys at John Hopkins. The campus is located in the city but not in a bad part. IT is very urban and that is part of the vibe of the campus. There is security everywhere and we never felt threatened. The campus is great and close to all of the attractions. But make no mistake, it is in the city. The stadium is located in the middle of campus and is really nice. Nicer than many D1 stadiums in fact. I have a couple of friends who are alumni and speak very highly of their exeperiences there..

FYI there is no longer a JV team and has not been for a few years.  Only Varsity.

Now they just have rostered players without numbers.

Looks like mostly freshmen, but there is a junior and a sophomore. Is it still true that the un-numbered guys never converts to numbered?

Let's look at the logic of the process. Those not good enough to get a uniform have to compete with another class of top recruits the following year. I would think the only player with a shot would be a late bloomer pitcher.

Wow....to have Johns Hopkins as a choice! Wow!!

Just to be clear-  Hopkins is not a choice for my son.  I'm trying to help a friend.

No problem. We have a friend who's son just finished his freshman year at Johns Hopkins playing football. He had his choice to play at any other high level academic university, and the clear option for him was Johns Hopkins.
