Russo,

Dont burn out...Start to train in the spring for HS ball, then find a good summer team to play June / July... find a fall ball team if you can after...

I dont think you will able to find to many spring teams out there..  I would think everyone is getting pumped at the gym &  batting cages for HS ball.

Good Luck..

BTW, I live very close to russo.  I do not know of any teams that play a spring schedule, stop for HS ball and then play a late summer schedule.  As HS ball start 3/2 up here there really is no time for a spring schedule for HS kids.

I also don't know of any HS aged travel teams that start play before HS stops.  There may be a few, but if there are they won't have much competition.  I do know of some who practice during the HS season, but they are taking the chance of getting their HS players kicked off the HS team.  Most of the travel teams respect the IHSA rules.

A h.s. player can not play H.s. ball and travel ball at the same time.If a player is not a H.S. player he can do whatever he wants.IShA has no control over anyone thats not in an ISHA sport.Forget the guys name ( owner of independent league team in joiliet) but couple of years back he had a 14/15 or 15/16team.NON of the kids were going to play school ball. There schedule started @ april and ended @ august.Suntimes ran a two page article titled end of school ball.Never heard or read how things went.Could possibly been a one and done. There were 2-4 kids from sanberg or over by there. With one of them being the son.Other than that team I have never heard of a travel team that played in season.I do see how this could be callenged and will be won in the future. The IESHA changed thier rule about in season play.It either begins this fall or started last fall. You can't let the younger kids do something that the older kids can't.A very large % of parents I talked to from north of me all say same thing.School ball is on its way out. From here I don't see itbut. lets look at it from what will be some of the first things that go when the state money is all but turned off? That is on the way.

proudhesmine, not sure if its the same team, but here was a travel team in Will County two years back or so who had about half their team not make their HS teams.  The travel coach went around trying to find other kids in the area who did not make their HS team.  From what I understand they spent the summer practicing for the most part as they could not find other area teams to play.  I think they went to 1 tourney out of state towards the end of what was the HS season.

Based on what I heard it was a 1 year thing and then fizzled out.  From what I've been told if you want to play spring ball instead of playing HS ball there are spring teams and leagues in Wisconsin and Iowa.

I know Iowa does because they don't start their high school season until after school is out for the summer. they then run their HS season during the summer. Very strange and inconvenient for those with next-level dreams. Wyoming is  a state that has no HS baseball whatsoever.

Yes, for those you don't play HS ball (by choice, don't make it, Home schooled) there is a spring league up in Racine run by the Hitters.  We had a "superstar" D1 commit in our area decide not to play HS ball so he played there.

As for the original post, how is his pitching?  I'll guess most teams are full but will always make room for a kid that can pitch.  I know we would, but we are 1.5-2.0 hrs. away.

Gman your 110% correct. How does the OP son pitch. Is that/do you feel that will be his spot moving foward?Any/most all teams will take another pitcher. We have 10 this year with 5-6 being PO only. While the will county team could very well be correct I'm not sure.Considering the sponser/dad had full funds to do whatever things could have well been unorganized and fell apart.

THATS THE WHOLE PROBLEM, grapevine hearsay tell us that the team is already picked,we just are preparing for the worst, and don't want to have a gap in his game, thats why i'm scouting options for him, thanks for all the input we keep our fingers crossed, but all team leads are appreciated thats the way it is some make it, some don't,

ok, thanks, yes, they will pick(I believe16/2) from about 100 kids that are going to be trying out at freshman level,

I think some of you think I "WANT", him to play both travel and HS TEAMS, in refrence to the IHSA RULE COMMENTS, (we are aware of the rule) again I am looking into alternatives, should he not make the team, he is a primary CATCHER,and that has a lot going for him, but on the same note i'm just trying to prevent a gap in his game, thats why I'm trying to get leads for spring and summer travel teams.....THANKS
