I would appreciate any comments on the coaching staff and program at Lynchburg College.  My son is going to visit there within the next 2 weeks and is very impressed with both Coach Abell and Knowles.  They seem to be a competitive team in the ODAC year in and year out. I have also heard very good things about LC as a school on the educational end as well.  Your thoughts are most appreciated.

Campus is set up as a somewhat small circle.  Red brick buildings w/ white columns.  Feels very much like "college" to me.  New construction on the student center.  Might be finished by now.  No football.  Lacrosse is big deal up there.  Nice newer lacrosse/soccer field.

Baseball field is tucked down in a bowl on the back of campus.  An old aux gym sort of blocks  the view of the field from the parking lot.  The aux gym looks dilapidated.  But actually serves as a really nice indoor space to get out of the weather.  To my understanding the only people that use the aux gym might be baseball & softball.  One of those things where they probably don't want the school to renovate the space because it might cause them to lose access.

Not sure any of these comments are all that helpful.  Your kid will have to see for himself to decide if he wants to call it home for 4 years.

No matter how bad or how good that field is, I have to think it needs to be way down the list of priorities.

Thanks PIS....my son is scheduled to visit LC on 11/22...coach wants him to meet some of the team and spend the night.  They have the degree plan he wanst to study (health/excersice science)  He is also going to visit Ferrum and Potomac State this month as well....I think that considering his success at various showcases, travel teams and his HS team, he is hoping to have at least a D2 school for a comparison.

I agree that the field may not need to be at the very top of one's priority list, but I'm confident that facilities matter A LOT!  Otherwise, why do universities put so much money into them?

When I've inquired to kids about their travel ball experiences, or college visits...one of the first things out of their mouth is how much they do or don't like the facilities.

So while it may be appropriate and advisable to focus on the important things (such as academics, campus, etc.), inevitabley, the real world says that the field matters.

If that was the case for all then Shenandoah University would have no recruits!
