If your son plays for one of the major organizations in DFW (DBAT, Frozen Ropes, Dallas Tigers,Texas Stix, Patriots for example) his coach can nominate him. Even if he doesn't play for one of these organizations, a hiitng/pitching instructor/scout who is familiar with your son can also nominate him. My son played for a independent team and was nominated due to the fact that we played in tournaments against all these clubs listed.  If he is a very good outfielder, there are people out there who know him and his skills that could nominate him.

My son was in same boat last year.  I can only offer information from our experience.  We attended an open try out and he made it from that.  He's very fast an his speed def. got their eye.  Be prepared if you go to open tryout because there will be a lot of kids there.  I think they leave like 8 spots open that they fill with kids from these tryouts and there were over a hundred kids at our tryout if I remember correctly. They do/did 2 divisions the 16/17 and 17/18.  Younger guys played in am and older (elite) played in afternoon. Good luck.
