Good morning, I looked up old threads and looked at the HSBaseballWeb timeline and it seems that Junior year may be the time to register with NCAA Clearinghouse?

I'm wondering if that recommendation may have changed in recent years with recruiting happening so much earlier now (at least with verbal commits?)

I have a 2017 player - should he be doing this as a sophomore?

Thanks!

I wouldn't think it would matter how early you did it.  I think we did it for my son earlier than junior year.  Just make sure you keep up with it.  I think once you request transcripts to be sent there from the school, they will continue to send them there automatically.  Although it wouldn't hurt to request the school to send final transcripts when your son graduates, just to make sure.  Also, when your son takes SATs and ACTs, make sure to have the results sent to the NCAA Clearing House.  I believe the code is 9999, but it's been a while for me.

I found once we started talking to coaches, they always asked if son was registered with the NCAA Clearing House.

Better to register early than too late.

Sorry, BOF, but it's an absolute need!!  That is, if the athlete is planning to go to an NCAA Division I or II school, whether directly out of HS or transferring from a JC. They need it for immediate eligibility as a freshman, and so they know what academic requirements they must satisfy if they will be a JUCO transfer.

It's recommended that an athlete register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (formerly the NCAA Clearinghouse) sometime during their sophomore year.  A primary reason is due to the opportunity for Division II schools to offer official visits as early as June 15 prior to the junior year of HS.  A prospect must be registered with the EC in order to take an official visit.

My 2015 registered this summer. Seems the NCAA does not move very fast.

Took some time for his high-school transcript to show received. This is how it stands now.

Academic Status-Decision not yet available

Amateur Status-Preliminary Certified

He's a good student and looking mostly at D3's so he's not worried about it. But should have done it sooner.

If I remember correctly, neither of those status' will change until final transcripts have been received. I think you're good right now. Just make sure SAT & ACT scores are forwarded there when taken.
