WSU won the Horizon League tournament last weekend. They went 3-1, losing in the first game of the championship round but then coming out smoking with 6 in bottom of first, 2 more in bottom second and cruising to a 17-4 victory. Jeremy did not pitch this weekend, I thought he was slated to start a 4th game (so did he) if we needed it but coach decided to go a different route when it was the 2nd game of championship and winner take all. He went with a veteran long reliever who has been key all year and was well rested. I have to admit I was upset (internally) for a few minutes as I found out just before the game (and so did son). But I have grown to trust coach and he has been really good to my son all year giving lots of opportunities. He obviously made the right call.

Pitchers are looking like they will have the best team ERA since very early 90's and within top 4 or 5 all time at WSU.

The dog pile was fantastic!

They are off to Illinois as the 3 seed. This is first time they have ever been anything but 4 seed in their 5th time getting to D1 NCAA (they actually were a main stay at D2 and won the whole thing once in the 70's and 80's).

I like our chances, though getting by Illinois will be a major challenge. I say that because they played 2 of top 8 seeds and won  a game earlier in year and had a very good shot of winning both those series ( Miami FL and Missouri St) and #2 seed Ole Miss the same thing.  We have a very good pitching staff with depth both in starters and relief, outstanding defense (something like .970 fielding %) and very good hitters that hit timely. With that I will take our chances against anyone in country.

Game time is at 1pm Friday vs Notre Dame and I will be there rooting on the Raiders
