Congrats, NECBL is a great summer league.  I'm sure your son will enjoy it.  My son played there last year and loved it.  Geographically the league is broken into a Southern and Northern Division.  NH teams are in the North, with Maine, Vermont and Northern MA teams.  The Southern teams (where my son played) are mostly located towards coastal towns in Southern MA, RI, and CT.  You would play the majority of your games within your Division with a road trip to each of the other Divisions fields:  Mostly reasonable bus trips (1-2 hours), but a handful of longer trips (3-5 hours).   Lots of great older ball parks and the attendance at most of the games was outstanding.

I don't recall there being any fees to play in the league.  My son was lucky to have a great host family that really went out of their way to make him feel at home.   The boys are responsible for their own incidental expenses, and the cost of living in some of the coastal towns can be steep, but I do believe there were some work opportunities during the season. (youth camps, etc.)   Again, great baseball, lots of local support and the opportunity to visit some very cool areas.  I'm sure he'll love it.

My son played in Danbury in 2009. The league was well run. Some communities support the teams very well, those that don't are generally gone in a year or two.

My guy lived with a really nice host family. Logistics were sometimes difficult without a car. Our cost was an airplane ticket and a bus to Danbury. The team paid the return airfare if the player stayed the entire summer.
