james, I will preference this by saying I am not a HS teacher, coach, AD, etc.  I work in the private sector, but my wife is an administrator in a school district very close to you.

I asked her about schools playing home schooled teams and she thinks its not allowed under IHSA rules.  I googled it and the only data I can find is a rule requiring ISHA homeschooled athletes to play for the district in which they live.  In order to be eligible to play for those teams the IHSA requires the student to attend the public school for which they are playing for at least 25% of their educational day.  Based on what I am seeing you may have a hard time getting IHSA member schools to play you team.  In addition to the IHSA rule you may face insurance issues as well.

Interestingly enough I did find some listing for home-schooled basketball leagues.  Mainly in the city and none of them play in an IHSA league.

There are a couple of knowledgeable IL coaches on here, maybe they will chime in.

Joes87, actually we are an IHSA APPROVED school, just not an IHSA MEMBER school.  Therefore we ARE allowed to play IHSA schools, However, they do not (and probably will not) count our games on their record.  But honestly we don't care about that. We just want games.  I have just started calling schools and already have games scheduled at 2/3 IHSA schools that I called.

HOME SCHOOL STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

Q. May a student who is home schooled, participate on a high school team?

A. Yes, provided the student is enrolled at the member high school, the student is taking a minimum of twenty five (25)

credit hours of work at the member school or in a program approved by the member school, and, the student must

be granted credit for the work taken either at the member school or in a program it approved. The student must

also pay applicable tuition and fees at the member high school. (By-law 3.011)

I don't even think you have to live in a school's district to play sports as a homeschooler. Just pay applicable tuition fees and you are in like flint!

Yeah, a homeschooler can play for a private school or public school provided they are "enrolled" for 25 credit hours.  However, I am NOT talking about kids playing for a public or private school, so it does not really apply.  Anyone who is homeschooled can play for my team.  We are looking to play AGAINST public and private schools.  Now, they certainly do not have to count our games on their record plus we are not eligible to play in a "HS State tournament" in Illinois, but we really don't care about that.  We just want competitive HS games.
