2018 is going to a PG showcase in August (Massachusetts) and was wondering if the 60 start is on first movement or when foot crosses the line?  Also, is it a "on your mark, set, go" type of start or just a "go"?  2018 was out yesterday timing the 60 (hand) and was curious on what it was.  Thanks in advance!  Anyone else going to this event?  Would be neat to link up and say hello...

Thanks!

Players use base running stance with the right foot up against the line and at our showcase in late May in GA, they had the laser set up so when his foot trips it, the time starts and when he crosses it after 60 yards, it stops.  There was no ready, set, go.  They just had a guy standing about 10 yards up who raised his arm for ready and when he dropped it, they go.  They ran in pairs with one on each side of the center line set up across the outfield.

We use laser timing.  When any part of the body breaks the line the time starts.  Unless the line is broken early with the front side you should run approximately .10 faster than an accurate hand held time.

The reason we use laser is to maintain consistency (take the human element out of it).  Starting this year, we will be laser timing at 10 yards and 60 yards.  Reason being we believe the 10 yard time is most valuable in baseball.  Sometimes there are players that are very quick but don't run great 60 times.  We believe the 10 yard times will become very important to scouts and college recruiters. Would they want the shortstop that runs the fastest 60 or the one that runs the fastest 10?  Our belief is that in all short sprints, 30 yards or less, it's all about the jump or start.  So speed in 30 feet or 10 yards can tell us a lot about quickness even if someone runs a slow 60.

We have both watched the videos and couldn't come to a solid conclusion on what it was...thanks to all for the clarification.  He's read PG Staff's article as well...He must've seen something about the 10 yards the past few days because he wanted to be timed in the 10 as well...just to see where he was at (was a little difficult to get an accurate time with a hand held).  His 60 was 7.34 a couple of times hand held, so his goal is under 7 by august (he is shooting for 6.94 --not sure why that number though).

Hey Philly,

Been debating for a year if 2018 would be ready for a PG Showcase by this summer. Was still back and forth on it until I read your post.  Sat my son down and asked what he wanted to do.  Words weren't even out of my mouth before he said yes.  If he's got that kinda confidence, who am I to say no.  Just sent in my invite request to the same event.

How long did it take for a response?  Excited to start planning the trip

It was only a few days until they responded, so not long at all...looking forward to the trip.  Maybe we will see each other up there...let me know if you get in.
