My second post in this thread.  My middle son is most likely going to play his last baseball game tonight...ever.  It hit me like a ton of bricks this weekend when I came to this realization.  Yes, there was a light salty discharge.

He loves playing baseball.   I've been fortunate enough to coach him from 9-14 years old, and this year in American Legion.   We've had some great memories on the baseball field together.  I'm very proud of him.   BTW....he went 5 for 6 in a doubleheader yesterday with 6 RBIs.  He's finishing strong!

He'll be attending Virginia Tech in the Fall.  College of Engineering,Class of 2017

Awesome!  My father went to Va. Tech and later was an engineering professor there.  I grew up a good chunk of my childhood in Blacksburg...great place to live and be a kid.

Hope your son has a great experience!  I think he's going to an awesome place with an awesome major!

We are new to this site as my son is just starting his HS baseball.

Michael Buchino  2017 Potomac HS in VA

Travel: Richmond Braves for past couple years

He is a Mif/P.   He is shooting be a contributor on Varsity as a Freshman.  So far so good in summer ball Coach is batting him 2nd and playing him all over against Varsity Competition.

We were slated to go to PG WWBA this year but were unable to attend, we will be there next year and hopefully a few of the invite only events.

Odd that I never posted in this topic, but here it is:

- Tyler Mandel, 2017, Scarsdale HS, Scarsdale, NY

- He'll be 14 next month, 5'9", 195 (built like a mini-house )

- 3B, 1B, P

- Blue Tide Baseball 14u (local-based travel that plays in and out of state), but will seek a different team moving forward (maybe this fall)

- Also plays 14u and 16u on the HS Summer team - local league

- He's looking forward to HS tryouts in the Spring

We'll be in Myrtle Beach next week for the Triple Crown 14u Summer Nationals if anyone else will be there.

I've got no sense of the staff's current needs and engineering may leave insufficient time in his schedule to consider this; but, if he's interested in seeing if there's anything available around the baseball program, let me know. It never hurts to inquire.

P.S. What a great pic!

Prepster - Thanks for the offer to help.  I may get back to you.

MidloDad - Thanks for the suggestion.  Yes, he knows about the VT Club baseball team and a couple players on it.   We've researched it.  The ball is in his court in terms of next steps.  Truthfully, I think he wants to see how much an engineering student really has to work.  He's heard many "urban legends" about it.  He's coming face to face with it in 3-4 weeks.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.  I've still got two playing baseball.  Senior in college (not looking forward to that last day) and a rising high school junior who has been working hard, improving and getting valuable experience.  My youngest has the potential to keep me in the baseball stands for a few more years....fingers crossed.

Hey Fenway!  Great picture, and thanks for sharing!

Also, the baseball team at VT has a few guys that help manage (stats, keeping score, etc.)  if he is inclined to do that sort of thing to be part of the team.  It also may help in "tuition reduction".    Will send you a PM.

Good luck to him in Engineering.  Great program.

Hi Fenway,

I haven't been on much lately, but just saw your post and got a little misty-eyed myself.Yikes,  I can't imagine that feeling, its like a real loss I am sure.  Club ball, and being the best Hokie fan ever, could be the place for your middle son!

(I am having serious baseball withdrawals myself,  and count my blessings every day, honestly, that the baseball journey continues for my only son.)

You will enjoy that senior year with your eldest and of course the fun is just beginning with your youngest

Let me know if you are ever in this area during fall ball season. I have no idea what to expect for my son, but I do know I'll be putting miles on my Jeep heading up to Storrs regardless of who is playing,  because I am seriously missing baseball!!  Can parents go watch fall ball??

Good luck to that middle son, Tech is amazing as you know.

Have a great summer everyone.

I am a Hokie - Class of 1977. Basketball was my sport in high school. At Tech, all I ever played was intramurals. It was amazing and Virginia Tech was even more amazing. To this day I have season tickets for football and basketball and get back to campus 3 to 5 times a year. I would not trade it for anything. Even the memories of crossing the drillfield for an 8 a.m. class in the face of a 25 mph wind are great ones that give me a common bond with other Hokies across generations. Your son is very, very fortunate. Best of luck to him!

What metal knife?! They'll insist upon his having the latest laser model...and one of them may hold the patent on it!

Time for me to add to this.

Son played his last American Legion game a little over a week ago,  They managed to get to the district 13 finals, but would have to defeat Albemarle twice to advance to the state tourney.  Sadly, they didn't advance, played Albemarle tough,  Game was tied 5-5 after 6 1/2 innins, but our pitching faltered with our pitcher walking in three runs.  Team made a valiant effort, getting runners on in the last two frames, but failed to get any runs.

Dylan was 3-4 with a FC and a run scored for the night.

It's been a great ride in Legion for the past three years.  Now it's back to PHCC college fall ball for another season.

Couldn't figure out how to post picture that I copied and write the post.

Anyhow, my son above is Ryan Beard.  Ryan is a 2015 LHP & RH Hitting 1st Baseman.  He was initially listed in around #140 in the nation by PG Last year, and now is around #340.  Interested to see where he will be ranked when the new rankings come out.  He committed to the Air Force Academy this year, and he is excited about that opportunity.

Last night, he attended the Winter Showcase in Salt Lake City, and he threw 86 from the mound.  Pretty good improvement from this Fall when he was throwing 83.  Right now he is looked at as better hitting prospect.  Last week his ball exit speed off of a tee was clocked at 94 mph.

He will be a starting pitcher and first baseman for his high school team this spring.

I think this speaks volumes about Lucas Giolito's dad. As JH mentioned Lucas is considered by many the #1 prospect for next years draft. That includes high school and college players.

So often people in his situation would never post in something called "Please Identify Your Son". I actually think most people would think they are above something like that.

It sure is refeshing to see parents who are part of something, and willing to share, rather than thinking they're too good to join in.

That said, there sure are a lot of outstanding players that have been mentioned on the 46 pages of this thread that started in January of 2004. And it's kind of cool to see how players from all over the place, with different skill sets, are all mentioned together in one thread. It sure brings back a lot of great memories for yours truly.

Congrats!!! It's Crazy, Happy to see a local Southern California player make it to the show.

My Son is Noah Benzing, LHP, Bishop Dwenger High School, Class of 2016. Headed to Trine University to study business and blessed to play baseball. Had a very disappointing senior year because of his lack of use. Pitched in 9 games (of 31), 13 innings in relief,1-0, 1 hold, ERA 0.00 (2.28 for a career), 8 unearned runs, 11 Ks, 4 bbs. Amazingly, he had three colleges offer him the opportunity to continue his career but had high school coach who did utilize him. Good thing college coaches know talent and he'll have plenty of innings left in his arm
