Try Black's in Austin. Pretty close to Franklin's and the same if not better. And there is no line, which is a bonus.

30 miles east of Austin...Southside Market & BBQ in Elgin Texas is great. Home of original Texas "Hot Guts", wrapped in brown paper. My birth home! I grew up on Elgin sausage! Still can see gran'pa stoking an open pit in the ground with an old metal grate. Add potato salad & pintos & green onions, Buttercrust bread & sweet tea! Finish it off with home grown Black Diamond watermelon slices!

Beef is BBQ. If in Houston, and you can get there by 10:00 am or so, try Killen's BBQ. I have heard Franklin's in Austin is really good, but haven't tried it.

I have tried to smoke brisket on a few occasions, but I have failed miserably.
That's because whenever I go to the store intending to buy a brisket, I walk out with a pork butt. Or two.

It was pretty good. Moist and tender. Good smoke. Unfortunately, my second try wasn't as successful.
One of the benefits of living in a large culturally diverse area is access to wonderful chow. I had Greek BBQ last night, Beef, Chicken, Pork and lamb from kabobs, sausages to patties.
For those visiting Lakepoint, here are a couple of BBQ eateries on that side of town.
