Im with the others.  Way too busy.  If it were me here is what I would do:

 

Start with a recruiting video, not a video of your son warming up and then some game video.  Thats not what the college coaches want to see.  They are interested in seeing about 2 minutes of pitching video shot from a couple of different angles.  Google around and you can find some good videos.  

 

The PG write up is good.  I would post a link to that as well as the text.  I would get rid of all the other pictures, awards, write ups, etc. 

 

The resume is pretty good, but I would get rid of the stats at the top of the page.  College guys don't care about those.

 

I would try to fit it all on one page as well.  Maybe post a PDF of the resume that can be downloaded if they want to.  Put a link to your contact information on the top if you want.  Somewhere easy for the college guys to find it.

 

Get rid of the "fluff".  The college RCs know when you are hyping yourself and will ignore it.

Again, keep it simple and direct, no amount of "marketing" is going to make a coach want to have your son play for him and in fact if he came to this page he would likely run for the hills as it is a sign of an overbearing dad.

Can you tell me the where your advise is coming from? I'm asking if you are a college coach or scout in order to validate your advise is credible. Your tone comes off as condescending, not helpful.  The profile web site was based on many other web based recruiting sites. Be Recruited, Captain U, etc. "Run to the hills overbearing parent" your off base. 

 

Players and parents are struggling with the recruiting process this everyday. I'm looking for a way to help my son and others. 

 

 

you said on another post his ACT score was a 22. Not bad, but not great. Kinda low for a student w 3.8 GPA     Is that GPA including college level courses/AP classes?

i don't have  real opinion on videos, just to say keep it simple like a resume.

I would spend more time on academics. He's going to get more money usu through academics vs baseball money.

I like the enthusiasm, but agree with the other posters, less is more. No music in videos either, i think you are ok there. Clean and direct. I hope you are also gathering data on who visits via their IP address, that is a handy tool for actually tracking how many times they visit. Good luck!

He is taking AP classes this year. This will drive his GPA higher. The ACT score of 22 was his first attempt. With more practice he will score 25+. This will ensure he receives academic money.  The videos were included to show him pitching from the wind up and the stretch. No game footage will be a substitute for seeing any player live.

3.8 is a good G.P.A (unweighted?). With that I would include more academic info (I know you said PSAT available in December 2016). Any AP's/Honors Courses? ACT was 22 (is he taking it again?).

 

Also: The PG info (scouts write-ups/verification) is good. I would remove the PG Profile Picture however--provide a link. Unless your son has his schools narrowed down, what caught me in the PG profile page was the list of "Schools interested in". If I am a recruiter and I am not on that list, you may not be on mine.

Quick tip on the video.  What most RCs and HCs want to see in the video is this...

 

-2 or 3 fastballs (windup) shot from behind the pitcher.

-2 or 3 fastballs (windup) shot from the throwing arm side of the pitcher looking straight at him.

-2 or 3 fastballs (windup) shot from behind the catcher.

-2 or 3 fastballs (stretch) shot from behind the pitcher.

-2 or 3 changeups (your choice) shot from behind the pitcher.

All edited down into a 1.5 to 2 minute video.  They are looking at the players form as well as movement on the ball.  The video ideally would be shot in a bullpen session instead of a game situation.

As a fellow Texan and dad of a 2016 who's committed to a D1, I offer these thoughts -- and an invitation to PM me if you'd like to talk:

 

  • You've found the right place to ask your questions. Kudos.
  • Any lefty who throws 87 will get scouts' attention.
  • It appears your son was late to the exposure game; he needs a plan fast.
  • Your son would get a lot more exposure with better-known select organizations.
  • Without a doubt, your No. 1 priority should be to get him to Jupiter this fall.
  • And finally -- as much as you're hoping 35sports.com will help, I don't think it will.Your son needs to be seen, and he needs men in Texas who are well-known and respected in baseball to speak for him. There are a lot of those guys.

 

(And also, because I have no doubt that Consultant (founder of original Area Code Games) is seeing something: I'd figure out how your son's tipping his pitches and fix it ... fast.)

I personally created a generic email (that I can modify for each school) with specific traits and stats of my son.  I linked a short YouTube video for both baseball and football in the email to target various baseball and football coordinators of schools my son is interested.

I had to read this twice because the first time I just assumed it was a pitch that ultimately promised exposure for money. I don't think it is.

 

BUT -- I DO think that there are a WHOLE LOT of companies out there making a lot of money off of a false premise: That you even NEED a 'recruiting video."

 

With PG, Under Armour, Regional orgs, college camps and all the rest -- why any parent pays any company for this is something I've never understood. 

 

A year or two ago I challenged the notion here that sites like BE RECRUITED were anything more than a money grab -- and some said I was wrong. Maybe I am. But I'd LOVE to hear from the parents of players who paid money for exposure (beyond what I laid out above).

 

I'd love to know who they paid ... and how it benefited their son -- with name of coach, school, etc.

I don't think it is either. He is giving parents the exact steps he uses to produce recruiting videos. I may be mistaken, but I didn't see anything in the post that talks about them producing the videos for people. I'm not sure if they even do that for people who aren't regular clients. I liked his list because it's very specific on what content to include, down to how to place the radar gun so it can be seen in the video. The thing that may be problematic for your average parent is having access to some of the equipment (i.e. radar gun, tripod for radar, etc.).

Good questions about paid services. I would be interested in that info as well. We plan to make the videos ourselves and post to Youtube. That seems to have worked for most people I have spoken to.
