Colonial Heights 3 - Prince George 2

Great pitching duel between CH's N.Murdock and PG's J. Rivera. Both young men pitched great and went the distance...if I had to guess both sitting in the mid 80s. Murdock gave up a a few walks but only gave up 1 hit with probably double digit K's. Rivera was in the strike zone all evening with 6 K's and 6  hits...I don't recall if he walked a single batter. Both pitchers worked through a few errors with only 1 earned run between the two of them;  and both seemed to be at their strongest late in the game. In the end, CH was able to put together a few more quality ab's to remain undefeated.

James River 2 - Cosby 1

Sounds like James River & Cosby was similar CH & PG.  A true pitchers battle that could have easily gone either way.  Griffin Roberts pitched 6.1 for JR and Josh Winder went for .2 .  Zach Mort pitched for Cosby and went the distance.  Roberts had 10 K’s, 2 hits with I believe a couple of BB’s.  Mort had 9 K’s, 4 hits with 0 BB’s.  Both pitchers sat 87 - 89 with Roberts topping out at 92 and Mort topping out at 90.  Good hitting on JR part and taking advantage of miscue home plate coverage on a great bunt.

Wake Forest got a steal in Roberts. He might have as much upside as anyone in the area. His physical development has gotten him a little jump in veto but even before that, he has always had a live fastball. Lots of movement and really hard to square up. Now, with the added velo, I really think he has a chance to be a Friday night starter in the ACC. Plus, he is a really good student and likes to compete. Can't wait to see how his career progresses.

Hanover 1- Atlee 0

True pitchers duel with 18 K's between Atlee's Brett Ayer and Hanover's Grey Lyttle.

Hanover Freshman Cam Grimes produced the only run needed for Hanover with a solo HR in the third. Lyttle had 10 K's, 1 BB for the night.  A throwing error for Hanover allowed the first base runner of the night for Atlee.  The first 3 innings Lyttle induced ground balls and pop ups for outs.  After that he went on a run with string of 7 K's in a row to keep the Atlee line up in check.  In the 7th, Atlee's Stephen Hurd had a quality at bat and was walked.  With the go ahead run at bat in the bottom of the 7th Lyttle struck out the batter to preserve the win.  With the win, Grey Lyttle pitched his second no-hitter of the season.
