Son is currently a sophomore playing baseball at a D2 NCAA university.  He is considering giving up baseball and completing his 2 years at a different university.  Is he violating any NCAA rules by applying to other schools right now? If he is accepted at another university, I'm guessing he could not make it official until when - the baseball season concludes, end of school year, etc. ???  Is there anything else he needs to be aware of?

Thanks!

thor, your son won't be violating any NCAA rules by applying to other schools.  However, be aware of the possible loss of playing time if word somehow gets back to the coach about his applications.  (For example, if staff member in Registrar's office is a supporter of the baseball team, and tells the coach that he's asked for transcripts to be sent to other schools.)  If you want suggestions on how to handle this situation, contact me at rick@informedathlete.com.
