Holy Moly!

I never thought I would actually see it, but it has happened.  In the most recent Virginian-Pilot baseball poll, SEVEN of the 10 schools in the rankings are SED programs, along with one Beach school and two privates.  Make that 70% of the district.  Coincidentally, the one beach school has lost two games.  Both to SED schools.

Rankings | Top 10 high school baseball

I know one thing...in 6A, Western Branch and Grassfield are pretty obvious.  The rest of the Beach and Peninsula better not sleep on Oscar Smith.

I am starting to believe that WB, GF and Hickory are a cut above the rest.  NR & GB is next and could beat any of the others but is just not as strong.

IR, OS, KF are pretty solid and will show well when not playing the teams above.  As we move into the conference schedules we'll see if this is right but it would not surprise me if SED teams won every conference regular season title they compete for.

It would be something if they all finished above .500 overall when the season ends.  It would be quite a accomplishment.

I felt the same way about NR in their loss to WB tonight.  WB actually looked a little flat early as well.  The difference...WB actually woke up and started to compete, and NR didn't.

One exception....Kieton Rivers hit an absolute missile over the trees beyond the left field fence.  Hardest hit ball I've seen by anyone this year.

GoHeels - I usually agree with the majority of your posts, and I agree with almost all of this one as well, expect Rivers' HR wasn't a missle by any means.  It was a high hit bomb off a hung curve ball.  Yes it went far, but it wasn't hit on a line like a "missle" would be described.  Id call it a "bomb".  LOL.  I certainly hope that was not the hardest hit ball you have seen all year, there were HARDER hit balls in that game alone.

We clearly didn't see the same thing!  The ball I saw never got more than 30 feet off the ground and was still traveling at max speed when it went into the top of the trees.   Hanging curveball, yes.  "Bomb"?  Not for me.  The ball would have to have been more of a fly ball, which this was not even close.  The ball got out of the park so fast that the left fielder barely moved anything other than his head!

Otherwise comparing a line drive single or double down the third base line to the 380 ft line drive into the top of the trees is a bit a of stretch....no?  Oh well.  Life goes on!

One thing we can agree on, and I meant to make mention of this earlier, was Mason's play in CF.  He personally saved 3, maybe four runs.  The two plays he jumped in the shallow gaps and the great jump on the line drive to the center field fence (also a missile)  were fantastic plays.  Nobody I've seen this year makes all of those plays.  He is without a doubt a high level D1 defender.

Been laying low around here for a while but thought this was worth my perverbial two schillings.  Again just my observation and opinion:

Certainly agree that someone or something needs to light a fire under the dugout and the teams energy and attitude in general. Body language is certainly disconcerting from ALL.

Just curious as to what changes you would suggest.  I have watched Coach T give other players the opportunity both defensively and to pinch hit as well as a few line up changes along the way.  Those players did no better or worse than those they replaced.

I would change the batting order up.  You are correct to say that there have been some minor changes with same results. Cole is a good hitter, there's another outfielder I think #19 that was a good hitter on jv last year and I  was told he hit well in North Carolina Can't expect these kids to come off the bench not getting opportunity to hit most of the year and then thrown in and they don't produce. Then benched because they "can't hit."  Have to be given more than 1 or 2 at bats. Just my opinion. I think biggest change has to be everyone's attitude. Coach T has to change it as well as the seniors.

Intense game, both pitchers kept hitters at bay, Perdue of Grassfield gave up 4 hits and Fuqua of IR 3. An infield error on ground ball by Riddick in bottom of 6th and missed throw on steal put go-ahead run at 2nd. A double by 6 hole hitter scored him. IR on top of 7 went K, error on ground ball, single by #7, double steal on another K, intentional walk to load up bases, pop-up to 2nd, Final 1-0. Perdue: 7IP, 104pitches, 4BB, 8Ks, 4H; Fuqua: 6IP, 97pitches, 5BB, 3Ks, 3H.
