Coastal VA Baseball camps will host a series of 1 day Showcases on Jan 28-29 and Feb 11-12 for top uncommitted 2018, 2019 and 2020 hitters, pitchers and catchers in Va Beach, VA.

What is this showcase?
It is the answer to the new NCAA Recruiting rule, which mandates college coaches can not work off campus from November to March.  This effectively means that college coaches will not see you until June. That is why we will stream this online.

Will coaches watch?
Absolutely!  We have over 30 college coaches committed to watch already.  When we discussed this showcase concept with them, we received amazing feedback with responses like "I'm all in!", "We will not miss this" and "Great idea! Count us in" were given.  An updated list of schools can be found on coastalvabaseball.com.

Why should you attend?
This camp is designed to get you on the radar.  It allows the coaches to see what gains you have made during the offseason and add you to their follow list for the summer.  If you really show out, they may come see you before June.

Camp details
Each camp will be an all day event - Pitcher/Catcher and Hitter - from 8am-5pm, with a break for lunch.  We will shoot HD video from multiple camera angles to show the colleges what you can do. Pitchers will throw 20 pitch bullpens.  Each school will get pitch charts and velo readings.  There will also be a camera on the catchers to help coaches evaluate receiving skills. Blue Jays' Throwing Consultant and Arm Care Specialist, Jamie Evans, will be on hand to discuss arm care and shoulder stability.

Hitters will take 2 rounds of BP for the camera.  We will have multiple camera angles to help with swing evaluations.  We will use Diamond Kinetics for swing measurables as well as exit velo.  Again, all schools who committed to watch will receive the spreadsheet data for the hitters.

On top of all of this, we will provide a customized, edited video of your performance by Play In School that you can use to market yourself to colleges after the event.  This is a CAN'T MISS event!

Interesting idea.  Of course it remains to be seen if coaches will actually be watching the showcase (some of them do not focus on watching players when they are there in person) and how effective the streaming is to be able to see a players skills.  But it goes to show how foolish the NCAA ban is on prohibiting the D1s from working these showcases when options like this arise to get around the rule.

It's not a money grab by any means.   We charge $190.  We are bringing in experts to talk about arm care.  We are also providing a Play In School videos for each player, which is $100-150 per player.

As for the timing, kids should be ready as this is when schools in this area are starting. After consulting with many coaches and arm care specialists, this timing is fine.

You can accuse me of a few things but a money grab isn't one of them.

Let me apologize and correct myself.  For position players this is probably ok. For pitchers it's not. Most kids are shut down until January or should be. Putting them on the gun at a showcase in January is not a good idea. Too early.  They have a long spring and summer ahead and should not be pressing this early.  Again I apologize for over generalizing and repeat as a pitching coach this is my opinion

Thanks for your reply.  I've spoken with several highly regarded pitching guys who say the timing is ok.

I agree the time is not ideal but I do not believe it is overly harmful.  Their only other option is to be seen in June by the coaches.

If a player is not prepared or thinks their participation is a huge risk, I would encourage them to not participate.
