Excuse my ignorance, but I have an entering Freshman. He has played year round travel ball since he was 11, he's now 14 and I'm very confused by showcases and showdowns. We are from the northern Calif area and there are a ton of academy's that claim if you are in their program that you will have the best exposure to scouts/colleges. How is one to know which are legitimate and which are just taking your money? Selling the dream? I personally have a hard time believing that any college scout is looking at my 14yr old. When I tell the academy that he will not attend a certain showcase or showdown I get a lecture about how gravely important it is that he is there. Costing me another $250-$300 on top of the monthly travel ball fees. Can anyone advise at what age and what events we should be watching for and/or planning for. Maybe these are all legit and I'm just ignorant to the process. Please educate me. Thank you!
