2019 P/SS performed well at the PG South Underclass Showcase last month and the volume of event/team invites have ramped up significantly.  Most are easy to tell if they are worthwhile...others, not so much.  Yesterday he got something from Jeff Edwards on Colorado Rockies letterhead inviting him to a Houston workout in late January in front of "area scouts, cross checkers and scouting directors from each of the 30 major league clubs".  There is no cost but I don't want to drive from Austin to find out it's a money grab.  Anyone else get this invite or know anything about it?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks SANDIEGOREALIST.  I searched and saw that thread but this event seems to be different.  The event in 2012/13 included a dinner and was more of an all-star game while the invite my son got was for a "workout" at a one-day event...position players in the morning, pitchers and catchers in the afternoon.

I'm leaning towards going but would appreciate any additional feedback out there.

Don't know anything about it.....but, how could it be a money grab if there is no fee?

2.5 hour drive would seem to be worth getting your kid in front of those type's of folks if he does indeed have the skills to flash?

Heck, most of us have driven that far to attend a travel ball game. I would think it would at least be worth a look. Worst case scenario you keep your wallet/purse closed and walk away the wiser.

Take him to work out in front of the scouts for free and pass on all the other crap that costs $. That's what I'd do (but I am truly no expert).

I have gone to a time share presentation for the free steak dinner. Had to tell the salesman not to waste his time as I would not be buying anything, just there for the free steak (he was pissed....lol).

The South Texas Scouts Association has a "long" history of ID young players for the Area Code tryout [also no cost]. please study the background of the pro scouts who are evaluating the talent in Texas. Congratulations on their "hard work". If you go shake their hand and introduce yourself.

The future of your son's baseball career is their hands.
