#15 Mets jersey now available. Per ESPN, a bridge agreement was signed with Majestic to go ahead and market his jersey even though he isn't a MLB player.

This really disappoints me. MLB forbids players names on jerseys unless they are on the 40 man roster. Just seems like anyone or any entity can do what they want. Very disappointed with the team, the agents, Majestic and Tebow.

My heart goes out to all of the players who have worked their butts off to make a MLB roster and proudly wear their name on a jersey and receive part of the MLB profits for that uni.

I just saw on SportsCenter since Tebow isn't on the 40 man roster the Mets and he don't have to share the revenue from the $125 Tebow jersies with the MLBPA. The members of the MLBPA worked their tails off to get where they are. Tebow gets it handed to him and walks off with the profits.

I wonder if that will get him a fastball in the ear hole in the spring. I could picture a MLB pitcher sarcastically saying in the dugout, "Let's see if he has MLB reflexes at the plate" and drilling him.

Well he probably Shares some of the Revenue with the mets or that minor league Team.

I don't think that MLB has existed since the 60's.  If side show Tim is at spring training, it's similar to Garth Brooks 15 years ago.  Photo Op, autographs, sell some tickets, end of Tim the baseball player.

BTW financially the mets probably already have made Profit. Jersey sales of the first days probably paid for his Bonus/salary.

BTW it is pretty sad for the state of Baseball that they make such an Hype around a failed Football Player. I can't see there being a craze about let's say Chris coghlan or another role Player announcing he plans to Play NFL.

It's only hype if you let it bother you.  It's a side show.  I'm not sure he is a failed football player, won a national championship, won NFL playoff game.  And I enjoy his SEC analysis.

I got what he meant and it bothers me a lot that he is letting them profit from him without doing anything of significance.

I thought he was better than that.

I just don't get the "bother" part, but to each his own.  I'm also mystified why any adult would want to wear a jersey with another man's name on it.  Of course, my Dan Marino jersey excepted.

Right or wrong, love or hate, good or bad.

Tebow is a polarizing figure!

No matter how this story ends up, it's going to get a lot of attention. Even more than it already has. even those that don't follow baseball are going to know how he did.  If he stinks, it will be a popular topic.  If he does well, it will be an even more popular topic.  The only thing that will stay the same is those that hate him or love him will continue to hate or love him. I don't really love him, but I certainly see no reason to hate him.  Seems like a very good human being to me who has accomplished a lot in life.

I almost get the feeling the Tebow will end up getting involved in politics at some point.  I can see it now... the all time record for most pages on the HSBBW will be titled... Tebow for President!

Jerry, while we've got ya.  Can you tell us if very many people within baseball loath all of this stuff like some others do?   I'm talking MLBers, front office folks, scouts, managers and such.  People who are actually in the game at the highest levels.

I think they are very professional, and focus on their particular craft (playing, scouting, analysis, etc).  I doubt many spend any time at all loathing on Timmy.  That's left for twitter, chat boards and other digital niches to spend time on.

I don't think many people in baseball have a problem with Tim Tebow trying to play.  However, most of those people don't think he has much of a chance to be successful.  He basically has two tools that could possibly play in the Big Leagues... He runs well enough and he has plus raw power.  If somehow he can actually hit MLB pitching, those two tools might be enough.  This, in his case, would require some very unusual natural ability to hit, because he is behind almost everyone in experience.  I would say he might have a chance had he signed out of high school rather than being almost 30 years old and not playing since his junior year of high school.

Everyone we have talked to that has seen him hit raves about his raw power.  I know many will disagree with me, but I like the added attention he is bringing to the game. I liked it when Michael Jordan played and I liked it when Garth Brooks played, too.  I don't think Michael or Garth did it for the money or the fame, Garth just loved baseball.  A Heismann trophy winner wants to play baseball.  I mean there are many more serious problems in the world.  What ever happens with Tebow playing baseball isn't going to change anything.  If they are using him to make money, what's unusual about that?  Isn't that what professional sports does?  Isn't that what big companies do when they pay some athlete to represent them?  This whole thing wIll not cost any of us a dime if we don't attend his games or buy his Jersey.

Mets said:

"there is no Tebow merchandise available at Citi Field. Nor will there be, unless Tebow reaches the Majors"

but then they also said:

"a fan can request a custom jersey at Citi Field with Tebow’s name and No. 15 on it, just as a fan can request his or her own name. The Mets do not split that revenue with other Clubs"

nice loophole.

Regarding Jersey sales, I believe his NFL jersey was the number one seller at one point.  Even his Eagles jersey in 2015 was one of the top sellers and he didn't even play that year.  I think they call it Tebowmania! First it was football, now it is baseball.  Wonder what happens next?

Hard to deny the interest.  There was a topic here about the MLB races that didn't last long.  This Tebow thread is 7 pages and growing.

I will be surprised if he gets out of Extended Spring Training next year.  His "live pitching" swing is much different than his BP swing.  He won't be able to revamp it only working 3-4 days per week this fall.  I get that he loves baseball but he's not all in.

The Mets own their low A full season affiliate. Its located in Florida. It's in their best interest financially for Tebow to spend a season there and jack up attendance.

My guess he would get smoked by low A pitching.  It will become apparent in this instructional league.  But let's see.

And my opinion has nothing to do with loathing, I'm not a hater.

His swing has been reported as modified and improved.  Also, no reports of tebowing at this time.

The original report on his swing was great before.  And then 2 retired MLB pitchers carved him.  He didn't sniff offspeed pitches.  12 years of not hitting will override 6-8 weeks of only 3-4 days of work (and 2-3 days of football commentary).

Again, based on ability...2017 in extended spring training is my call.  Also, no better than .210 BA.

I've never had an issue with Tebow. He was a great college QB on one of the greatest collection of college criminals in football history (45 players on that team had arrest records). My issue is with the Tebow worshippers who can't see the lack of professional skills and believe he is persecuted for his religion.

I wonder what will happen at home plate after he hits his first home run.  I think it's funny that he pisses so many people off. I can understand the Steelers fans (go Steelers!!!).  I also think it's funny that so many still believe that the press and people on social media were not ripping him a new one due to his outward showing of his religious beliefs

The double standard at it's best.

What double standard?  Tebow didn't kneel during the National Anthem!

All of them are kneeling for something they believe in. Preferring one over the other is inherently a value judgement of the cause for which they're kneeling. Especially in light of the attacks all of them have received for making a statement in what some (many?) judge to be an inappropriate venue.

I'm not sure you can make a logical argument that Kaepernick and those inspired by him should be derided for making their statement while lauding Tebow for making his. The optics of the racial divide don't especially help, either.

A few years ago I had a 12 year old score the winning run in a game.  When got to the dugout, still grinning, he told me "I started to Tebow on home plate."  He wasn't interested in any sort of religious tribute.  He just wanted to show off.  My response, "be glad you didn't, cause you won't do it but once."

Should Tebow do this he better be ready for one in the ear hole during his next AB.  The boy clearly ain't no rocket scientist.  But, I think he knows better than that.  He'll save it until after the high fives, when he's safely in the dugout.
