I was wondering if he got tossed; throwing equipment (unsafe)unsportsmanlike conduct. Coach shouldn't condone that--to me he deserves to sit. For his sake, let's hope he's a senior, and that was his last AB in game and won't face that team again.

He's an 8th graders according to the article.  Me and that boy would have a long conversation about what's appropriate and not appropriate with me doing all the talking.  But I would give him a second chance.  If he's truly an 8th grader then he's automatically gifted with being dumb.  They all are at that age but it's our job to make them as undumb as we can get them.

Bat toss was too much - it could have cold cocked someone.  The rest of it isn't that big of a deal.  If a kid gets  pumped after cranking one then we need to take it down a notch.

Old schoolers will want blood though.

I have seen much worse on the bases via malicious contact around 2nd and at the plate where defenseless players are wiped out.  A lot of old schoolers think that is clean hard baseball rather than the assaults some of it can be.

Dumbness isn't confined to 8th graders.  When they hit 10th grade the become really dumb. My kid got HBP and tossed the bat toward the dugout.  But he flipped it Bautista style.  Got the warning.  Said he didn't think it would go that high.  Oops.

All - Good responses but I think that Coach2709 sums it up best - young and dumb. Hopefully, someone will teach him what is and isn't appropriate because he clearly doesn't know any better.

I am glad that no one was in the on deck circle on the first base side because that bat launch would have taken him out.

Btw, do you think he knew he was being filmed? LoL

I consider the kid young and dumb. I'm guessing he didn't understand how bad it looked. Regardless of how anyone feels about Bautista's bat toss he's a pro in a career defining moment. It's a lot different than an 8th grade game.

Had my son ever done anything like this kid (at any age) he would have received an in private earful from me. But I told my kids "It's not about you. You're part of a team."

That said, my son wore gloves in his back pockets. I had told him Mel Hall wore gloves in his back pocket that waved "bye, bye" as he rounded the bases. A few dads picked up on it. But it was generally a quiet, family joke.
