It does not seem all that long ago that Coach Scannell recruited our son to San Antonio, with the goal this would happen.  There were so many anguishing "just misses" in so many tough West Regionals.  There was the loss of our assistant coach who died during the 2002 West Regional, followed by the devastating death of #12, Chris Ashmos in August of 2003, just before our son's senior year.  I won't ever forget our son holding a dog tag the team used in 2004 to remind them of Chris as they battled and eventually lost to the CWS Champion.  Nearly every year since, Trinity has knocked on the door. Today and this week, they knocked the door down.

Trinity did not lose a game in the post season and could have 3-4 D3 kids drafted in a few weeks.  Great team! Amazingly great coaching staff.  So happy our son got to be part of a journey which had some lows no players and coaches should have to experience. Today, the spirit of 41 and 12 share a spot at the mountain top of D3 baseball!.

My son was blessed to have played for Coach Scannell and Trinity. The experienced changed his life in all the great ways that baseball can. Tim has built a terrific program with deep tradition and a sense of brotherhood that truely effects young men in the most positive ways. Tim and all the coaches that have built the program over the past 15+ years need to be both commended and thanked.

Winning this years D3 world series is the culmination of lots of great kids, families and coaches that have helped create a program that should be admired by all. Great job!

My son and I did a visit there during his recruitment period. While my son ended up not going there due to an injury which he wanted to rehab at home, he and I found the coaching staff to be a class act and the program to be first rate.

I could not be happier that they have completed the quest!!! Congrats to all if the players and staff - both current and past.

Thanks infielddad and others who have followed or been part of this program. As Coach Scannell said in the news conference this has been a 20 year process building on each team from the prior years.

This was a long time coming for a great program that lost their title of "best program to not get to a CWS" last year and now "best program to not win a CWS", partially due some bad luck (seriously), but mostly for some great teams from Linfiield, Chapman, Whitworth, Pomona, Emory, WI Point, WI LaCrosse, and probably a few others that I missed.

Also congrats to Keystone in an amazing year for them to get to the championship series in their first trip to the CWS is pretty special.

Many of us close to the Trinity program thought that last year’s team was one that was going to win it all due to their balanced pitching, defense, and offense, but this year’s team showed that you can win a championship with offense and defense. Pitching to this team 1-9 was really tough for opponents. However, for all the talk about the offense, there were some amazing defensive plays and this was the critical difference this year IMO. How the Trinity shortstop Connor Moore was not on the gold glove list boggles my mind.

In the end it is really a mental grind for teams to get through the Regionals and CWS and make it to the end. Sure teams need talent, but the ones that get to the end have to have amazing mental toughness, and I think a lot of people (and players) maybe don’t realize how important this is. It really is a grind, especially when you throw in weather delays like they get in the Midwest this time of year.

It will be really sweet to see the Walnut and Bronze sitting in the lobby on my next trip to San Antonio.

For parents and players coming up, if your son is smart and has D1 talent (or is maybe a late bloomer and will develop into D1 talent) and wants to get a plus education add Trinity to your list. Coach Scannell and his team are pretty special to play for as others have noted. The pitching coach, Dave Smith has been on the cutting edge in developing pitchers for many years, Kyle Boddy at driveline (who I have a lot of respect for) was probably a kid when Coach Smith introduced weighted ball and similar programs their years ago. Finally it is also possible for a STEM major to play baseball at a high national level and be on the field as well as get a great education that is particularly difficult at most high performing D1 programs.

Congrats to the Tiger Nation, it was great to see the #tigerpile last night!

That is wonderful!!  So many of our members have personally gotten to experience their quest for the National Championship and the rest of us have gotten to live vicariously through their stories.  Huge congrats to all the kids and their families who have gone to Trinity as it is an experience shared by all.  It was Einstein who once said that he stood on the back of giants like Newton and Galileo.  So it is here with baseball.  The current team was built over the years and now have kicked the door down for the entire program.

Hey BOF,

I hope everything is going well with your family?  A friend of mine has a freshman son that was part of Tiger Nation this season from our home town....of course I thought about you and your son immediately,  pretty awesome for Trinity!  Congrats to the current & former players and coaches in the program.

Hey BSBL nice to hear from you. I will send you a PM and catch up later in the week. It was great to see them finally break through, and was special for us since we knew all of the Sr's and their families. Something people would not notice but they wore their old jersey's for the championship game in as recognition to all of the former players in the program who they built this on. (they signed a contract with Nike last year and have new ones... many of which are pretty bad looking IMO, their pins they wore were the best looking from the previous group) They got back to the campus last night with a big crowd (even though school is out) and I say Coach Scannell being interviewed and he was already talking about recruiting this summer... the life of a coach, always rebuilding. Cheers.
