I know many of you will watch your kids play baseball this weekend, either at college or HS. Here in Iowa, we're projected to have snow, freezing rain and another three months before we hit the field.

So I'm going to snuggle in and watch baseball movies. Last snowstorm was The Rookie. It was okay.

What do you recommend for a snowy weekend?

Most of my favorites are movies I don't intend to watch again anytime soon -- Bull Durham, the Natural, Major League, Field of Dreams, Sandlot, Bad News Bears.

Looking at what Google shows as top baseball movies there are a few that I have not seen in a very long time that  I should see again:  The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars, Bang the Drum Slowly,  and Eight Men Out

I don't think I have ever seen Fear Strikes Out, so I should rectify that.

Iowamom, The Rookie ???  OKAY ???

Clearly, you are not part of the fraternal past-their-prime, back-in-the-day, I-coulda-been-somebody/maybe-i-still-can-but-I'm-a-dad-now group of dreamers that most of the rest of us here are.

"Dad, what's a Devilray?"  "Guess what we get to do today?"    COME ON !!!   OKAY  ?????

 Also not mentioned yet...

A league of their own.

Bull Durham gets watched at least once every winter no mater what! The Gold Standard of baseball movies for me.

The Sandlot is almost like an audio book for me. When they boys were young they used to watch it every car ride of 2 hours or more, often on the way there and back...I can still HEAR the argument scene ending in "you play ball like a girl" and the wendy peppercorn thrown out of the pool scene like it was yesterday. I think I only actually ever watched it once.

Major League is always good.

For the love of the game is a bit serious for me but a great movie.

8 men out I find sad and just don't enjoy it.

I liked Moneyball more then most and highly recommend it.

First I'd start with Long Gone the best baseball movie ever lol. Then and pretty much in order

The sandlot
Brewster's Millions
Major League
Bull Duram
A league of their own
The Babe
The Rookie
Field of Dreams
The Natural
Bad News bears (original)
For the Love of the Game
61*
Benchwarmers
The Scout
The Fan
Ice Pirates (I know it's not a baseball movie but I can't make a movie recommendation list without adding it lol)

And I can't believe being from Iowa you don't have The Last Season on DVD

Of coarse you can always throw in Ed hahahaha.

Field of Dreams, hands, down. A shout out to Dyersville.  IS this heaven?....

HEY IS THIS HEAVEN? NO ITS IOWA

The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg

all my other favorites have been mentioned

(Sandlot "Heroes get remembered but legends never die, follow your heart kid, and you'll never go wrong"

The Natural "C'mon Hobbs, knock the cover off the ball!"

Bull Durham so many quotes but gotta love "This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball."

Field of Dreams "We're keeping this field."

Damn Yankees

Mr. Applegate: I've got thousands of Washington fans drooling under the illusion that the Senators are going to win the pennant!

Lola: Aw Chief, that's awfully good! When they lose there'll be suicides and heart attacks and apoplexy... just like the good old days!

Not the 'best movie ever' (actually a documentary) but it was recommended previously on this site:

"Baseball: Pelotero"

....and what foreign baseball players and their families (and scouts) will do to get the good players out of their country.

It is worth an hour of your time.

This thread has remembered me to watch Moneyball again!
